Discount site Wowcher offers shoppers major savings on the latest trending products, and most of the time the deals are good.
Shoppers need to subscribe in order to get access to products and services for a budgeted price.
Once signed up, there are plenty of offers to be enticed by, including Wowcher’s ‘mystery deals.’
The ‘Mystery Deals’ covers a range of topics from a mystery gadget, to a summer product for your garden to even a mystery holiday including a range of surprise locations.
Wowcher, which serves 52 cities around the UK and Ireland, sell the mystery deal on behalf of third-party companies with the promise of at least one of the advertised items.
The deals can range from £10-£99 depending on which mystery topic is chosen.
But do shoppers actually get what they want from these mystery deals and are they worth it?
We decided to find out and bought the Wowcher Summer Mystery Deal to find out (please note this particular deal has expired but there are other mystery deals here).
Scroll down to read Gemma’s review and find out what she got.
This summer mystery deal from HCI Distribution cost £9.99 plus £3.99 for delivery or there was an option of redeeming it towards another available deal.
We chose to buy the deal with the possibility of owning:
- Rattan sets for your garden
- Lay-Z Spa hot tub
- Karcher jet washer
- Egg chair
- Fire pit
- Camping equipment
- Garden water fountain
- Bluetooth speaker
A possibility of a spa or a trampoline for £9.99? Go on then.
When purchasing the deal I was a little cynical, surely they can’t give away one of these high-priced items for such a little amount?
But it was like the lottery – you’ve got to be in it to win it.
Curiosity won me over and I went ahead and bought. It was a little complicated because I had to pay an extra £3.99 delivery charge through the third party site Wowcher directed me to.
However this didn’t take too long to do and I was promised my item within 12 days, giving me plenty of time to dream about the possibility of a hot tub in my garden.
The long delivery also gave me plenty of time to forget that I had ordered it.
So when it was handed over to me by the postman in a small blue plastic package I had no idea what it was and no recollection of ordering anything recently.
Stuck to the front of the package was my name of course and then in tiny writing – Summer Mystery Deal.
This tiny package is my mystery item? Surely my hot tub or lawnmower or trampoline can’t fit in this?
But yep, you’ve probably guessed what it was already….the Bluetooth speaker.
Disappointment lasted for a few seconds which was soon followed by a sense of smugness that my cynicism was right to begin with, and also embarrassment that I expected anything else.
To be fair to Wowcher and the distribution company the portable, wireless speaker is actually okay.
I’ve used it a few times in the garden during the sunny days and it does the job.
The sound quality isn’t the best, it goes a bit “tinny” when setting it to a certain volume, but overall it connects perfectly via Bluetooth – even over a wide range.
I can leave the speaker in the kitchen and go outside with my phone and it still plays music.
The Veho speaker is currently sat on my kitchen window and does get used when I’m doing the dishes.
The small blue speaker is a little reminder that we don’t always get what we want in life, but sometimes what we have is alright anyway.
