What is Covid Plan C? The restrictions being discussed – and those ruled out

A ‘Plan C’ is now being discussed by MPs and government ministers as the Covid picture in the UK grows increasingly bleak.

The government has reportedly began to “mull over” the possibility of ‘plan C’ – but these talks ARE at an early stage.

Reports in the media on Thursday suggest newspapers have been briefed by Whitehall sources.

The plan will be different to plan B, which includes face masks, face coverings, work from home guidance and potentially vaccine passports.

Instead, plan C will focus on the mixing of households and impose restrictions around public get togethers and gatherings.

But interestingly, it has been confirmed the economy WON’T be affected – so premises and businesses won’t have to close.

It’s nothing like a full blown lockdown, ministers have hinted.

But it could see restrictions on gatherings indoors and outdoors.

There is the possibility of a blanket ban on mixing households, reports also add.

A Whitehall source told The Telegraph: “The focus is very much on measures that can be taken without a major economic impact, so keeping shops, pubs and restaurants open but looking at other ways to reduce the risks.”

The plans are being kept under wraps for the time being.

SAGE member and former chief scientific adviser Professor Sir Mark Walport last night warned BBC Newsnight: “Am I worried? Yes.

“It’s very, very delicately poised. We’ve got a lot of cases at the moment.

“Winter is coming, flu is probably coming. It’s not a good place to be.

“The evidence is that the current measures are probably not holding things.”
