A hair salon was raided in Birmingham by thieves in a BMW in the fourth such raid on businesses in the area in a week with the owner describing it as ‘soul destroying’.
JYG Hair and Beauty in Harborne Road in Edgbaston was raided just before 4am on Friday, April 23, with two people in a BMW smashing in to the premises stealing products and a till and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The business had been over little over a week after three months of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Jacqùe Graham who owns the business said: “It’s just awful.
“You can see from the CCTV they tried to crowbar the door lock and then the glass in the door shatters.
“They smashed through it and get through the hole in the glass. They then steal GHD straighteners and products and take the till.
“It’s way more than £1,300. There was money in the till. We even had money in there for a Christmas meal which we hadn’t had and keys for the girls’ lockers.
“In trying to get through the lock they damaged the barrel and we couldn’t open it. I will have to pay two excesses for the building’s insurance and the contents and my premiums will go up.
“It’s soul destroying.”
The 52-year-old, who used to teach hairdressing at Solihull College, continued: “There’s glass everywhere. We haven’t got money.
“I contacted 101 and they have assigned me a police officer. This could literally shut a business down. Things like this can actually finish you.
“I have never been broken in to before and this is my sixth year. It’s like going through stages of grief. You’re angry. Playing back things in your mind.”
Jacqùe continued: “There was nothing on show. I am a Christian and I am living by faith at the moment.
“They don’t care what they are doing, clearly.
“They are doing it to so many people – Francesco’s in Streetly, another one in Harborne.
“They don’t know what it takes to run a business in this climate. It literally could be the end for a lot of businesses, if I didn’t have insurance.
“Salons are waiting for their business grants from the Government. I have had to lose a member of staff in the pandemic. This is reality.
“They are proper thieves in that they don’t care.”
Jacqùe believes it is a man and a woman who carried out the raid. She said: “In a close up I think she has a feminine shape.”
She said the car they came in was a black BMW 3 Series.
The same type of car was used in a raid at Francesco’s in Streetly in Sutton Coldfield on Monday, April 19 at 3.30am, with two occupants stealing thousands of pounds worth of equipment and hair products and causing extensive damage, together totalling around £20,000.
While a day before (on Sunday, April 18) thieves in a stolen BMW raided Dragon Vapour vape store in Station Road, Dorridge in the early hours and stole expensive vape kits and caused more than £10,000 worth of damage.
The BMW duo are also thought to have raided Rumours of Harborne.
It’s important to know what’s going on and what is being done about it by police and the criminal justice system.
