Villa fans praised after showing support for Chelsea tribute to Sean Lock

Chelsea will pay a special tribute to late comedian and Blues supporter Sean Lock during Saturday’s game against Aston Villa.

Lock, a Chelsea season ticket holder, died of cancer at the age of 58 last month.

Well known as a team captain on Jimmy Carr’s Channel 4 comedy panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats and spin-off 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, he also wrote and starred in BBC sitcom 15 Storeys High.

His passing with met by a wave of tributes from fellow comedians and Chelsea supporters.

It has been announced there will be a minute’s applause in memory of Lock in the 58th minute of Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 5.30pm.

Comedian Omid Djalili, a friend of Lock’s, took to social media to share the news of the tribute.

He tweeted: “Happy to announce the club agrees and have asked to get the word out. Next home game v @AVFCOfficial next Saturday one minute of applause. I shall not be sitting. Comedians do like a standing ovation. And hopefully @RomeluLukaku9 will score in the 59th.”

Djalili then praised Villa fans, who have shown their support for the tribute.

He wrote: “Bruce Buck @ChelseaFC chairman has asked for reminders re minute’s applause scheduled for the 58th minute in honour of season ticket holder Sean Lock (who passed away aged 58). Glad to see many @AVFCOfficial fans have stated their intention to join in on Saturday. #CHEVILLA.”
