Sometimes getting to sleep can be extremely frustrating, especially if you’re unwell or have something on your mind.
There are plenty of “hacks” out there that people claim help including counting sheep and sleeping naked.
However, one doctor claims there is one way that you can help yourself get to sleep – and it involves one cupboard item.
Holistic plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn, from Detroit, has gone viral on the video-sharing platform with a video about ‘body hacks’.
His video features a number of different tips, including how to get rid of nausea and how to revive a ‘dead arm’.
Anthony’s sleep solution couldn’t be easier – all you need is peanut butter, reports the Mirror.
He says: “I just cannot fall asleep at night.
“Try a scoop of peanut butter before going to bed. It contains tryptophan which will help you fall asleep.”
According to webmd.com, tryptophan “plays a role in the production of serotonin, a mood stabilizer, melatonin, which helps regulate sleep patterns”.
In his clip, Anthony also suggests sniffing an alcohol swab if you’re feeling nauseous and to rock your head side to side a few times to relax the neck if you find that your arm has fallen asleep.
And for those who are stressed, the expert recommends closing your eyes, inhaling for a count of four and exhaling for a count of eight.
“Do that a few times and you’re gonna feel so much better,” he adds.
The video has been viewed over a million times and garnered more than 309,000 likes and thousands of comments.
One person replied: “You just gave me a lifetime worth of hacks.”
Another said: “I do the peanut butter thing if I can’t fall asleep. I’ve convinced myself that if I eat a spoonful of peanut butter it’ll put me out and it always has.”
A third wrote: “Thanks for the tips, I have trouble sleeping so I’m definitely giving the peanut butter one a try.”
