Pundit highlights Aston Villa transfer progress as Spurs ‘fall short’

Aston Villa have left some of their Premier League rivals trailing in their wake following an excellent start to the summer transfer window.

Villa have already beaten Arsenal to the signing of highly-rated attacking midfielder Emi Buendia while Ashley Young has returned to the club from Inter Milan.

Dean Smith’s side also continue to be heavily linked with a move for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.

It is different story for Tottenham Hotspur – a member of the top-flight’s so-called ‘big six’ – who are flailing in their attempts to secure a new manager, look set to lose Harry Kane and are yet to add to their squad.

Pundit and former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan says Villa are showing up Spurs with their aggressive start to the summer window.

“Aston Villa, straight away, have hit the ground running. They’re not wasting any time,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“This is where Tottenham are falling short here. The majority of Premier League clubs already have plans in place. They have managers in place, players in place, players they’re looking.

“To get a successful team, you’ve got to put these jigsaw pieces in as quickly as possible. They’re getting it done before you know the pre-season.

“You do struggle to wonder what’s going to happen at Tottenham right now.”
