‘Petty’ neighbour cuts down only half tree on their land

Sometimes if you are lucky, your neighbours are people you get along well with.

However, other times you might not see eye to eye with them.

Neighbourly disputes come in all sorts of forms. Whether it’s playing music too loudly or building a fence too high, these sorts of feuds aren’t unheard of.

One Reddit user has found one of the best examples of ‘British pettiness’ in a neighbourly row demonstrated in a single photo, the Mirror reports.

In the photo there is two houses with a clean driveway on the right hand side and wrought iron gates beside the wall.

On the other side is a nice, perhaps slightly untidy, lawn with a tree on the boundary of next-door’s drive.

his hilarious photo perfectly captures a supposed dispute

It seems the tree has caused the arguments.

A closer look shows the tree has been completely cut down one side.

As if a perfect straight line has been cut down the middle of the two driveways, the lush tree is completely cut off on the other side – where it would presumably jut out over the neighbour’s property.

The photo was posted with the caption: “Some traditional British pettiness on display” and has racked up more than 30,000 likes from people who, presumably, recognise the exact dispute these two houses are having.

The user wrote: “He asked if he could cut down the ivy on the front of my house. I said no. He tried to do it when he thought I was out.”

After an expletive-filled exchange between the pair, the loving neighbourly relationship was ruined forever, and they only ever spoke about ivy from then on.

The user added that, when he sold the house, his neighbour went ahead and cut the ivy anyway.
