Newmains woman is praised by her loving husband

The Wishaw Press was delighted to award Newmains woman, Lisa Kirkwood, with a beautiful bunch of flowers in recognition of her dedication to both work and family.

The 38-year-old was put forward for our Say It With Flowers feature by husband, Martin, who praised her resolve during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lisa has worked for over 15 years as a staff nurse in the orthopaedic unit in Wishaw General, continuing to do so tirelessly over the last 18 months, despite the tragic loss of one of her close friends to the virus last year

As well as being dedicated to her patients, Martin says she is devoted to caring for him and their two daughters, Pippa, six, and two-year-old Bethany.

Martin told us: “I wanted to nominate Lisa because of everything that has happened over the past year.

“She lost a close friend to COVID, who was also a nurse, and she has kept her head up and battered through it.

“She has balanced work and family life, home schooling our two girls, and helped me through a difficult year after losing my job and being diagnosed with skin cancer.

“It has been so tough, but she has come through the other side. I am so proud of her. She is the glue that holds our family together and my rock when I have been at my lowest.

“I also wanted to say good luck as she has just started a new job at the hospital. Our girls love and adore their mum as do I.”

Lisa attended Coltness High School, studying for a degree in nursing at Bell College afterwards.

She met Martin through a mutual friend at a bar in Motherwell and the couple would later marry at St Mary’s Church, having now enjoyed 10 blissful years together.

And when Martin told us about Lisa we were delighted to help, presenting her with these stunning flowers, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals.

Lisa said: “I want to say a big thank you to Martin, I could not do it without him.

“I would also like to thank the Wishaw Press for nominating me and to Pixies Petals for providing these beautiful flowers.”
