Music star Goldie slams Midland hotel in viral video

A Black Country -born star DJ has slammed a Midland hotel warning people to “stay very clear” in a video posted online.

Musician Goldie, whose real name is Clifford Joseph Price, took to Facebook to criticise the Telegraph Hotel in Coventry’s Corporation Street and speak directly to the owners saying “you need to get your eggs checked in the basket”.

The 56-year-old Walsall -born star posted the video in a quintessentially English accent and while wearing what appeared to be a stick-on moustache, Coventry Live reports.

He said, while stood outside the building, that he has “never experienced anything like it” despite staying in many hotels around the world.

Goldie said in the video: “The level of idiocy in this establishment is quite fathoming me.”

He added: “I’ve frequented many hotels around the globe for many, many years and I’ve never experienced anything like it – I really haven’t.

“So, to the owner of this establishment, I think you need to get your eggs checked in the basket, so to speak, because the level of staffing here is incredible.”

He adds: “It’s absolutely like one of the worst experiences Higgsy has ever had.

“So if you’re in Coventry, I would stay very clear, in my humble opinion. Remember, only in my humble opinion.

“You may want to stay at a lesser four-starred establishment.

“But, ah, be very very careful.”

He is understood to have stayed at the Telegraph Hotel on Saturday night after performing a DJ set at the city’s HMV Empire venue.

A spokesperson for the Telegraph Hotel, Coventry, said they were “disappointed with any negative feedback”.

They said: “We are aware of the video posted online.

“The Telegraph Hotel prides itself on the quality of service it provides to all customers, but we also have guidelines and protocols that we have to follow for all guests.

“Obviously we are disappointed at any negative feedback, but have spoken to staff on duty at the time and are fully confident they conducted themselves in a fully professional manner.”
