Latest Covid rate in each part of West Midlands with 7 areas falling

Friday’s update of Covid-19 case rates for every local authority area in England has been released.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 258 (82%) have seen a rise in rates, 53 (17%) have seen a fall and four are unchanged.

Birmingham remains in the top 50 according to the latest figures compiled by the Press Association via the NHS England and Public Health England websites.

The figures, for the seven days to June 14, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

Birmingham recorded yet another day of zero deaths on Friday – the fourth in a row – but remains in the top 50 for Covid rates, according to PHE.

Blackburn still leads the way.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.
