Anwar El Ghazi has been urged to remain at Aston Villa amid claims he is wanted by Roma.
Newly-appointed manager Jose Mourinho is familiar with the Dutchman’s abilities from his time coaching in the Premier League.
Mourinho is rebuilding his team ahead of the new 2021/22 Serie A campaign following a few departures and has already signed Portugal international and former Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
He became Roma’s first signing of the Mourinho era on July 13 and was followed by Uruguayan left-back Matias Vina.
Now there are claims that the Giallorossi have launched a bid to sign 26-year-old El Ghazi but ex-Villa defender Alan Hutton has urged him to stay.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “You can’t take it away from him. He has stepped up in some big moments and scored some really important goals.
“For me, he was an absolute nightmare to mark in training. When he was on it, he was absolutely unbelievable, he was unplayable at times.
“I just think you want to see it more often and I know it’s easier said than done. It’s easy for me to sit here and say that about him, but it’s true.
“I know what he’s got, what he’s capable of, that I want to see it more often.
“It’s the thing about wingers, they can be inconsistent. That’s the problem.
“I want to see him stay, fight for his place and show that level I know he can show.“
Hutton who spent eight years at Villa, played 19 times alongside the Dutchman during the 2018/19 Championship campaign.
El Ghazi first joined Villa on a season-long loan before his move to Villa Park became permanent in July 2019.
He has made over 100 appearances, scoring 23 times and assisting 13.
The winger finished the season with four goals in seven outings.
