Full list of Perth and Kinross Council candidates revealed

A total of 86 candidates have put their names forward to stand for a place in Perth and Kinross Council.

There are 40 seats across 12 wards up for contention at the forthcoming local elections.

Locals will head to the polls on Thursday, May 5.

There are seven independents standing and candidates from up to nine parties.

Out of the current 40 councillors 28 have put themselves forward for re-election in the same ward.

Parties who have listed candidates in one or all of the 12 wards are: Alba Party for Independence, Scottish Conservative and Unionists, Scottish Family Party, Scottish Greens, Scottish Green Party, Scottish Labour, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Scottish National Party (SNP) and the UK Independence Party (UKIP).

The number of candidates standing in each ward varies from five in Strathtay to nine in both Blairgowrie and Glens and in Perth City Centre.

Alba – formed just last year – is fielding two candidates. It has one in Perth City Centre and one in Perth City North.

The Scottish Family party has three – each standing in Carse of Gowrie, Blairgowrie and Glens and Kinross-shire.

The Scottish Greens – not to be confused with the Scottish Green Party – has just one candidate standing in Perth City South.

UKIP also has just one Perth and Kinross candidate – standing in Almond and Earn ward.

The Scottish Green Party – not currently represented in the council – is fielding a strong number of candidates. It has nine candidates spread across Carse of Gowrie, Strathmore, Blairgowrie and Glens, Highland Perthshire, Strathallan, Kinross-shire, Almond and Earn, Perth City North and Perth City Centre.

Scottish Labour – which currently only has one elected member in PKC – has seven candidates spread across Carse of Gowrie, Blairgowrie and Glens, Highland (Perthshire ), Kinross-shire, Perth City Centre, Perth City North and Perth City South.

The Scottish Conservatives – currently in administration – have candidates in all 12 wards as do opposition parties the SNP and the Scottish Lib Dems.

The wards with an independent candidate are: Strathmore, Blairgowrie and Glens, Highland (Perthshire), Strathearn (two), Kinross-shire and Perth City Centre.
