Festive Five: Quintet of Christmas market events planned for Hamilton

It doesn’t seem too long ago Lanarkshire was facing a very subdued festive season – however it looks as though the coming months will be much closer to normality.

Hamilton businesses have pulled together in recent months as the country eases out of Covid-19 restrictions, and a firm focus has been on shopping and spending local.

It’s since brought a buzz back to the town centre with the very successful food and drink markets recently, which has now inspired big plans this Christmas.

A total of five market events are planned in Hamilton, explains Hamilton BID manager Malcolm Thomas-Harley, who hopes to make up for lost time after last year and involve the community as much as possible.

The business rep is providing a monthly column telling readers what’s happening in Hamilton; the work of many local businesses; and how we can all support each other.

What’s happening in Hamilton?

with Malcolm Thomas-Harley

It’s an understatement to say it’s been a difficult few years.

Businesses and communities have been challenged like never before however through all of this there have been positives in particular how people have came together to support each other.

The ‘support local’ message regarding business in the town is a clear one from us however there are lots of local people who have been supporting each other out there too!

So when we started work on what shape Christmas would take in the town centre this year our first thoughts were with the people in the town and of course the businesses of which we represent.

Last year we were not able to have any festivities and therefore this year we are especially motivated to provide safe and relevant Christmas themed events in town being mindful of our purpose.

This year following the success of our markets we hope to bring to you a total of five Christmas market events on Quarry Street. (Subject to approvals).

If we get the green light this will be the most events that Hamilton Our Town (BID) has ever led since being set up on 2012.

So If you enjoyed the summer market events we plan to go bigger and better with our Christmas plans and even hope to switch on the Christmas lights at the market.

This Christmas it’s going to be all about celebrating Hamilton and our community and this is where you come in…

We want to celebrate those who have helped in their communities as part of the festivities this Christmas.

If you know someone who has gone above and beyond to help others tell us about them on the Hamilton Our Town Facebook page!

I’m looking forward to sharing all the plans with you closer to Christmas but until then please remember to Shop, Eat , Play and Stay Local and thanks for reading.
