BBC flooded with complaints after ‘rude and unprofessional’ end to The One Show

The One Show has been hit by a river of complaints after being accused of “rudely” cutting off music legend Shakira as she appeared on the show tonight.

Alex Jones and Ronan Keating were back presenting the BBC One show, with Shakira the special guest for the night on Friday.

The singer hasn’t released music for four years and was promoting her new single Don’t Wait Up.

But the BBC show was hit by technical difficulties as they tried to speak to Shakira via a video link.

Desperately trying to reach the singer at the end of the show, host Alex Jones said: “Shakira can you hear us now? There’s only a minute left of the show…but what does it feel like to be back?”

The singer then launched into her response – before being cut off by the Welsh presenter as the show ran out of time 45 seconds later.

“I’m extremely excited, I feel very inspired,” Shakira said.

“I feel like a horse that is running wild after so long being in a box at a stable. Now that it’s actually safer to be in a recording studio with all the collaborators, everything that I’ve got is pouring out.”

Alex had to jump in and interrupt the star, saying: “Sorry that’s all we’ve got time for…”

Fans of the Colombian singer were quick to brand the show “disrespectful”.

One raged: “Sorry, #TheOneShow but cutting @shakira off that was was incredibly rude and unprofessional.

“If you knew you had mere seconds left, you should have cut your losses instead of effectively blanking an international music star.

“I think an statement of apology is owed.”

A second wrote: “We want Shakira back. This was disrespectful. #TheOneShow @BBCOne.”

“Very unprofessional @BBCTheOneShow,” a third viewer said.

A fourth said: “#TheOneShow manages to out embarrass itself #shakira.”

A fifth wrote: “Omg this is so sad, they cut shakira off she only spoke for about 45 seconds #TheOneShow.”

And a sixth added: “#TheOneShow bring Shakira now or I’m rioting.”

The One Show continues on BBC One on weekdays at 7pm.
