Alex Brooker has sparked concern among fans after he was missing from a special celebration for the UK’s Paralympics team.

He said: “Alex Brooker can’t be with us tonight as he is unwell.

“But he did text me before to say he will stay up to watch, so he’s the real champion.”

He added to the Paralympians in the audience: “He has said he will come to each of your homes to apologise and perform a medley of Madness hits.”

Viewers immediately took to Twitter to wish him well as they were concerned ‘something massive’ must have happened for him to miss the show.

One wrote: “Really hoping @alex_brooker is OK. It would have to take something massive for him not to be part of tonight’s @Channel4 @ParalympicsGB #Homecoming2021 #GetWellSoon”

Another fan said: “@alex_brooker sorry you’re unwell wishing you a speedy recovery.”

The special celebration for the UK’s Paralympics team saw interviews with the athletes, and performances from Sigma, Birdy, Clean Bandit with Wes Nelson, Ella Henderson, Jay Prince, Jamie Cullum, James Arthur and Madness.

They were joined by disabled dance group Stop Gap, wheelchair ballerina Joe Powell Main, who achieves a lifetime dream of dancing with the Royal Ballet, the House Gospel Choir, Deaf Men Dancing, disabled guitarist Max Runham, Evelyn Glennie, violinist Michael A Levine, artist Rachel Gadsden, deaf dancer Chris Fonseca, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and poet Raymond Antrobus.
