Genius TikTok video shows how you’ve been cooking pasta wrong

Boiling pasta is arguably one of the easiest things to do at dinner time – but what if we told you there’s a way to make it even less hassle?

TikTok user Dani Khalil has revealed that instead of boiling pasta and then pouring the contents into a colander to drain it, you can actually just place the drainer into the pan of water so that when the pasta is cooked, you can simply lift the colander out and the draining is already done.

In her video, Dani explained: “Today years old when I realised I should cook pasta in the colander to save my back. Am I the only one?”

Dani said the hack helps those with poor strength

While the hack is only advisable if you have a metal colander that won’t melt in the boiling water, the trick does save a step in the pasta cooking process.

And it’s especially good for those with poor strength, as Dani insisted she always used to struggle with draining pasta before discovering the technique.

When one commenter asked what the point was, she responded: “I have terrible upper body strength to lift a large pot, a small change like this will help me. It’s the little things sometimes.”

Although some people were sceptical of the trick as it would only “save 10 seconds”, many couldn’t believe they hadn’t thought of the idea themselves.

One wrote: “Oh my god why did I not put two and two together?”

While another added: “I’ve had that in my cupboard for years and I always back out and I always use a different pot or take the strainer out.”

And a third said: “Surely this goes viral because I’ve never thought to do this.”

Others insisted they already knew about the hack, and pointed out the existence of specific pasta pots that come with colanders designed to fit inside the saucepan.

Dani then admitted she has Italian ancestors who would be “so disappointed” in her for only just learning about the trick.

She said: “My Italian ancestors would be so disappointed I’m sure!

“I have had this pot and colander for a long time. My Nonna is for sure turning in her grave in disappointment at me.”

Would you use the hack? Let us know in the comments.
