Mum-of-four shares her ‘secret’ for going to restaurants

Keeping children entertained is difficult at the best of times, but when it comes to taking them to a restaurant, making sure they stay quiet and well-behaved can seem like an impossible task.

But one mum on TikTok has unlocked a secret hack that ensures her four children never have a tantrum at the dinner table.

Shannon Doherty @athomewithshannon revealed she always takes an “emergency restaurant kit” with her whenever she takes her children out to eat – and the items inside are easy to obtain.

Alongside colouring books, crayons, books, and card games to keep her little ones entertained, Shannon also included practical items such as face masks and plasters in case of emergencies.

In the video, the mum-of-four explained: “People always ask: What’s our secret to going to restaurants as a family of six?

“We bring emergency restaurant kits. We fill them with things we may need, my family is entertained, and we can eat!”

The mum’s video has been a hit with fellow parents and has already racked up over 80,000 views.

And in the comments, other mums can’t stop praising Shannon for her genius idea.

One wrote: “Dinner is more fun with these activity kits. So much better than phones!”

While another added: “Thanks for the tip!”

And a third said: “So smart!”

Shannon also had further tips to share in the comments, as she replied to one comment which asked what an alternative could be for children who aren’t fond of colouring books.

She wrote: “Try books, stickers and card games!”

The mum then added that eating outside is a “go-to” for them because it gives their family more room and keeps them away from restaurant-goers that want to enjoy the peace and quiet indoors.

But others were less impressed by the restaurant hacks, as they claimed parents should be teaching their children “how to behave” without the need for extra entertainment.

One said: “We just taught our kids manners, no need for entertainment.”

And another posted: “Or just teach them how to behave.”
