A man has been airlifted to hospital after being smashed in the head with a hammer on a busy high street in east London.
Police officers were called to Leyton High Street at 5.49pm on Tuesday to reports of men fighting and one armed with a hammer.
In a tweet, the force said: “One man found with head injury – he has been taken to hospital. We await an assessment of his condition.
“No arrests at this stage – crime scene & road closures in place & enquiries ongoing.”
Witnesses are being urged to call 101 referencing CAD 5515/31 Aug.

Waltham Forest councillor Shabana Dhedhi also tweeted a photo of an air ambulance landing near the scene.
“Somethng bad has happened in Leyton – air ambulance landed in Drapers fields never seen anything like it everyone stunned – stabbing near Coranation gardens,” she wrote.
