Love Island: Kaz and Tyler announced as fourth place

The Love Island final has sparked an important conversation about racism in the UK.

Viewers watched through teary eyes last night as Millie and Liam were crowned the winners of Love Island 2021, but their victory has sparked a race row among some fans of the ITV2 dating show.

As the four couples gathered around the stage to hear their verdict, audiences gasped in disbelief when Laura Whitmore confirmed that Kaz and Tyler had landed in fourth place.

In third place came Faye and Teddy, and Chloe and Toby won the place of runners-up.

Love Island viewers couldn’t quite understand what had gone wrong, and how Kaz and Tyler had somehow managed to fall behind Faye and Teddy – who some claimed appeared like a weaker couple in comparison.

Taking to Twitter to air their grievances, disheartened fans of the show hit out at the ‘blatant yet subtle racism’ in the UK.

“Faye and Teddy beat Tyler and Kaz? That’s just racism. Because you can’t even match their energy and attraction,” fumed one viewer.

“Kaz and Tyler coming last in the final just shows the blatant yet somehow subtle racism in the UK. It’s actually so sad,” another voiced.

“The UK is so open with their racism. Look at how it showed in the Love Island finals. Y’all voted in levels of blackness. Now y’all know damn well Kaz and Tyler deserved second place at the least,” another fan insisted.

One fan branded Millie and Liam as ‘bland’ and ‘mediocre’

Elsewhere, someone else hit out at Liam and Millie by dubbing them a ‘mediocre, bland couple’.

“Not surprised Kaz and Tyler came 4th but apart from casual racism, colourism and racial preferences a white mediocre bland couple is once again rewarded with 50k. Not forgetting Liam’s antics in Casa amor we can gladly say that this was premeditated by the producers.”

However, other Love Island enthusiasts hit back at claims this series was riddled with racism and insisted that Millie and Liam won the show because their connection was the strongest.

“I can totally see why people would feel the result was based on racism but I honestly believe it’s because people could genuinely see how in love Millie and Liam were. It was between them and Chloe and Toby for me,” one avid fan suggested.

Kaz and Tyler came in fourth place

“Some people here are forgetting Amber Gill won the show in 2019. It’s not racist, Millie and Liam were the best couple there and they deserved to win,” wrote someone else.

Meanwhile, a third shared: “Kaz and Tyler were exclusive. They weren’t girlfriend and boyfriend and they seemed pretty ‘meh’ when it came to discussing their future so I think people lacked trust there. I don’t think it was anything to do with the colour of their skin.”

Kaz and Tyler’s journey to the final had been an incredibly rocky road thanks to the dreaded Casa Amor.

Tyler first entered the villa as a Love Island bombshell and made it clear he only had eyes for Kaz, who had been there since the beginning but found herself unlucky in romance.

The pair appeared to be going from strength-to-strength until Tyler’s head turned in Casa Amor and he made the decision to bring Clarisse back to the main villa.

When he arrived home, Tyler was stunned to see that Kaz too had recoupled with Northern Irish hunk Matthew – and he soon realised that he still had strong feelings for Kaz.

The pair eventually broke it off with their new beau’s and found their way back to one another.

Viewers backed Kaz and Tyler from the very beginning and are now hoping that the pair will finally go on to become boyfriend and girlfriend on the outside.
