ITV star Lorraine Kelly has explained how her sex life with husband Steve Smith is ‘toddling along nicely’ after co-star Dr Hilary Jones pointed out she was going through the menopause
Lorraine Kelly has given fans an insight into her sex life after going through the menopause.
The ITV presenter, 61, has revealed her sex life with husband Steve Smith is “toddling along nicely” thanks to hormonal replacement treatment (HRT).
Chatting with The Mirror, the mum-of-one explained how going through the menopause left her with crippling anxiety before she sought help from doctors.
After cameraman husband Steve told the star she needed help, the broadcaster reached out to her ITV co-star Dr Hilary Jones, who diagnosed the presenter with menopause.
Since receiving treatment, Lorraine told The Mirror how she feels like herself again – even in the bedroom.
Talking about her sex life, she said: “For me, HRT helped everything toddle along nicely in that department. Even if you decide against HRT, there are alternative remedies. You lose your waist as you get older, but HRT helped with this.”
Lorraine also praised HRT and expressed her gratitude with receiving the correct medication for her condition.
“HRT is brilliant. I put a patch on my bum twice a week,” she explained in her new interview.
“Within two weeks of starting it, I felt better. Steve said, ‘I’ve got you back again.’
I was lucky. Many women are misdiagnosed and packed off with antidepressants”, she added.
When quizzed if ‘leakage’ was an issue for her as she ages, the much-loved presenter said bladder problems were nothing to be ashamed of.
“Luckily, it didn’t happen to me,” the star admitted during her candid chat.
“But it could happen to any one of us so, for goodness sake, what’s a bit of wee? You pop an Always Discreet in your pants and you’re fine. It shouldn’t be something we’re embarrassed about.”
The star, who has been a breakfast TV staple for decades, also revealed the secret to a happy marriage.
Lorraine has been happily married to her husband Steve since 1992 and the couple share one child together, daughter Rosie.
The Scottish star met her future husband while he worked as a cameraman on one of her early shows and claims she knew he was ‘The One’ from the first moment she met him.
Chatting about her relationship with The Mirror, Lorraine explained how the pair never go to bed angry with each other.
“We don’t take each other for granted. We go out independently as well as together, we give each other space,” she confessed.
“We don’t fight much but as Mum always says, ‘Don’t go to bed on an argument.’ “
She continued, saying: “For our 30th anniversary we’re hoping to go on an adventure, somewhere like Mongolia or Greenland.”
“We’re not ‘showbiz’ types, so instead of attending the fancy Bond premiere, we went to a small screening so we could wear tracksuits and drink coffee.”
