Liverpool are reportedly ‘in talks’ for RB Salzburg hotshot Karim Adeyemi as the Reds explore attacking options amid Mohamed Salah‘s continued contract stand-off.

Uncertainty remains over the Egyptian’s future with the star forward still yet to commit to a new deal at Anfield. Liverpool are understood to have tabled Salah a staggering offer which would see him earn a rumoured £400,000-per-week, however, as of yet, no agreement has been reached.

With the Reds running the risk of losing the 29-year-old on a free transfer when his current deal expires in the summer of 2023, Liverpool chiefs face the daunting prospect of losing their star man in the near future. With Salah’s future still up in the air, it appears the Merseyside club have taken steps to recruit a potential replacement.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Liverpool have opened talks with RB Salzburg over striker Adeyemi. The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young stars having struck 20 goals in 38 appearances this season, including 16 in 24 Austrian Bundesliga outings alone.

It was thought Borussia Dortmund were leading the race for the German international as they plan for Erling Haaland’s increasingly inevitable departure this summer. However, Liverpool look to have stolen a march in the battle to sign the starlet.

It is understood that a fee in the region of £35million will likely be enough to secure the striker’s services. Though it has been touted Liverpool may sign Adeyemi as Salah’s successor, it may well be the case that the Salzburg star is recruited to replace another Anfield forward.

Both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are also out of contract in the summer of 2023, no doubt adding to Jurgen Klopp‘s desire to bolster his forward line. While Divock Origi is merely considered a back-in, the Belgian is another expected to depart in the near future, with a summer move to AC Milan appearing imminent.

Addressing his ongoing contract stand-off earlier in the month, Salah hinted that there is still some way to go regarding talks, when asked if he is confident a new deal can be agreed. The Egyptian said: “I can’t say yes; I can’t say no.

“I’ve said a million times before about what I want, but I can’t go deep into the contract now – I can’t go into the news about my contract now, because the team needs to win.

“There is not much I can say, honestly what can I say – there are many things people don’t know about it. I can’t be selfish. We are in the most important period for the team.

“So I just have to talk about the team, focus on what’s important for the team. Hopefully we are going to be more optimistic and see what will happen (with the contract).”

Salah has hit a staggering 28 goals in 40 appearances for the Reds this season, laying on a further 11 for good measure. Many of Europe’s elite have been linked with a move for the striker amid his continued contract uncertainty, however Barcelona appear to be his most viable option, with Spanish press reporting that the Liverpool forward has “already given signs” he’s interested in joining the La Liga giants.
