Everyone’s favourite Aussie icon turns 53 today, and she’s rumoured to soon be marrying her boyfriend Paul Solomons in a secret wedding. Here’s everything we know…
It seems Kylie Minogue truly can’t get her Welsh partner Paul Solomons out of her head: there are reports the Aussie hitmaker is due to marry her boyfriend in a secret ceremony.
As Kylie celebrates her 53rd birthday, and not long off the back of her fifteenth album, Disco, which went to number 1 in the UK charts, it’s believed that Kylie has been arranging her wedding back home in the city of Melbourne, Australia.
Paul’s step-mother confirmed the news that the couple were engaged back in February, saying she was “thrilled”.
“She’s very nice, I’m thrilled they’re engaged. It’s very exciting,” she told MailOnline. “But, I’m sorry, I cannot tell you any more because I’ve been told not to. I respect my son and I respect Kylie too much to say any more.”
However, Kylie tweeted to say that any news of an engagement was false.
Recently, Kylie and boyfriend Paul both touched down in Australia, and sister Dannii has been spotted escorting Kylie on a shopping trip as sources close to the couple have been speaking about a potential secret wedding.
“Kylie has said for years that when she does marry, it will be in her beloved hometown of Melbourne,” an insider told New Idea.
“Her parents are here and are getting on a bit, so it’s hard to get them to Britain in this current climate,” they added.
Another source claimed plans for the wedding have “snowballed” from something small into something more grand.
“I heard Kylie wanted a really low-key wedding once she realised Paul was the one. But now she’s back in Melbourne, plans are snowballing a bit. She’s totally caught up in the moment and thrilled to be home,” a source told Woman’s Day magazine.
As the world waits for the potential of a secret Kylie wedding, here’s everything we know about Paul Solomons and Kylie Minogue’s relationship so far…
Paul Solomons: Lucky in Love
Kylie and Paul, who works in publishing for the UK edition of GQ magazine, met early in 2018 when their relationship was revealed by an insider who spoke to The Sun newspaper.
“Kylie is in no rush to get into a serious relationship but she’s certainly enjoying the attention,” said the source. “It’s no secret she was left feeling very bruised and vulnerable after her break-up.
“She needed time by herself to get over it. Now she feels ready to move on.”
The source was referring to Kylie’s split from her Aussie fiancé, the actor Joshua Sasse, who was reportedly cheating on the pop star with another actor called Marta Milans.
It was in July 2018 that the singer finally went public with her boyfriend, who has been creative director at British GQ since 2001. She shared a shot of her and 46-year-old Paul on the rooftop of a New York building on her social media platforms.
She captioned the image ‘I [love] NY’ with a heart emoji, and the image showed the singer smiling and glancing up into Paul’s eyes, with the two wrapped in each others’ arms.
In November 2018, Kylie spoke about her happiness on The Jonathan Ross Show. “It’s going great, it’s fabulous,” she said. “Just when you think that ‘will it ever happen?’ and it came and surprised me.”
Throughout the following years, more loved up photos have appeared on their social media accounts, and the two have been pictured together at numerous events.
Billie Piper appears to confirm engagement
Rumours about the engagement were also sparked by the actor Billie Piper, who called Paul Kylie’s fiancé in an interview with Elle magazine around the same time as Paul’s relative Gloria made her remark.
“He’s Welsh, works at GQ and will, in time, become a dear friend, a blinding success and Kylie Minogue’s fiancé,” Billie said in the 2021 interview. She was discussing how back in 2000 Paul had carried her out of a club when she became unwell.
Kylie’s spokespeople have always denied an engagement. They said: “It’s not true. They are happy as they are.”
