Katie Price ‘devastated’ as fan loses thousands of pounds in rogue trader scam

Katie Price says she’s “devastated” after she was slammed by a fan who lost almost £1,000 of her hard-earned cash when the former glamour model promoted a rogue trader on her Instagram.

The reality TV star, 43, is believed to have earned around £3,000 per post for telling her 2.6million followers about a currency “expert”, who goes by the Instagram name of Josh Chandler.

And 40-year-old Kate Dalrymple, from Newcastle upon Tyne, claimed she was tricked by the scam and lost nearly all of her monthly wage of £1,140.

“Expert” Josh reportedly told NHS nurse Kate she would receive £1,250 if she sent him £100 – but was told to pay a “release fee” of £725 – and that she would receive over £4,000.

However Kate claims she lost nearly all of her monthly wage, and has reported it to Action Fraud.

“I feel so stupid. But I was always a fan of Katie’s. I thought she was a good mother and related to her,” Kate told The Sun.

Five other people were reportedly tricked, according to the outlet.

Kate added: “I used to defend her when she’d get stick, and couldn’t understand all the bad publicity she got.

“Now I feel so let down and embarrassed. How could she put her name to this?”

Katie has since spoken out about the events.

She wrote on her Instagram story: “I am absolutely devastated to receive the news about this rogue trader Josh Chandler, if that’s even his real name, he has conned not only me but my family, friends, loyal fans and supporters.

“I want to thank Action Fraud for reaching out, for working with me in investigating this awful situation.”

She added: “This is precisely why Harveys Law is yet again so relevant, if we had the much needed support channels in place and required by law to provide ID’s to be set up on social Media account then people like this so called Josh Chandler would not be able to hide themselves, target venerable people.

“My heart goes out to all those that this conman’s deceit affected, I pledge to you all I will seek justice.” [sic]

Nurse Kate says she “didn’t think” it could be a scam as Katie was “praising the man” on her Instagram.

She added that her bank, Lloyds, even tried to contact her due to “fraudulent activity” but Kate insisted it was fine as the mum-of-five had posted about it on her social media.

“I messaged Katie once I realised what had happened but she didn’t reply. I’m devastated — and disgusted by her behaviour,” Kate concluded.

The Sun reports how Katie posted about “a friend of mine called Josh” on her account at least twice.

“Hey guys, so I want to tell you about a friend of mine called Josh,” she shared in a post last month.

“He’s amazing at what he does. And you may have heard about him or seen him on other media sites, if you’re interested in securing a new, safe income . . .”

Katie and Josh do not follow each other on Instagram.

Lloyds are reportedly investigating, however they believe they will not be able to retrieve Kate’s £825.

The Mirror has contacted Katie’s representative and Action Fraud for a comment.
