A heartwarming historic photo shows how the Queen and Prince Philip were reunited following a royal tour shortly before their 10th wedding anniversary.
Her Majesty’s official Twitter page yesterday posted a loving message to grandson Prince William and Kate Middleton as they celebrated 10 years of marriage.
And a rare black and white snap taken in Lisbon, Portugal, in February 1957 shows how the monarch, then just 31, and her husband, 36, aboard a yacht looked just as happy as they prepared to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
The Duke of Edinburgh had been at sea since October 1956 as part of a tour to open the Melbourne Olympics and visit several Commonwealth countries.
It meant he missed their ninth wedding anniversary, as well as Christmas and New Year’s, while the Queen remained at home with the children Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
There was much speculation at the time over the state of the royal couple’s relationship and unfounded rumours that the Duke had been unfaithful during the trip.

The chatter became so rife that Buckingham Palace was even prompted to take the unusual step of issuing a statement, insisting: “It is quite untrue that there is a rift between the Queen and the Duke.”
A few months later the Queen and Philip marked their 10th anniversary on November 20 with a private dinner party at home.
The Duke’s gifts to his wife included a piece of jewellery he’d designed himself, white carnations, and a tin kettle – a nod to it being their ‘tin’ wedding anniversary.
The young couple were still working out the balance between private and public life with the Queen having ascended to the throne following her father King George VI’s death in 1952.
Philip and the Queen remained married for 73 years until the Duke’s death earlier this month.
The Queen famously described Philip as her “strength and stay”.
“I’d love to know their secret…because they are the most lovely couple,” William said of his grandparents in 2016.
