Coronation Street fans startled as David Platt’s son Max replaced in new episode

Coronation Street fans have been left startled as David Platt’s son Max Turner has been replaced in the latest episode.

Actor Paddy Bever made his debut as Max Turner in Thursday night’s episode.

Max appeared in school scenes during the episode as Daniel Osbourne began his teaching placement to the delight of his dad Ken Barlow.

However, the latest iteration of Max proved himself to be a troublemaker as he played up in class.

Max’s bad behaviour shows that Daniel will not find the job as easy as hoped.

Later, David told off Max for his bad behaviour but got dealt some cheek back from his son.

Badly behaved teen Max made clear he does not feel bad for how he acted and swiftly stomped off.

Naturally, viewers had some thoughts on the new and antagonistic Max.

One fan of Coronation Street penned on Twitter : “Max has rocked up. Looking 6 years older and gaining a fantastic taste in trainers. #Corrie “.

A different viewer commented: “Did I miss the episode of #Corrie where Max inserts a coin into a fortune-teller machine called Zoltar and makes a wish to be “big”.

Another tweeted: “So Max has gone from a 14 year old kid, to a 20 year old adult in a few months. What’s David been putting in that lads orange juice? #Corrie “.

More conflict lies ahead between Daniel Osbourne, Max Turner and David Platt

Meanwhile, another viewer of the soap wrote: “Max. They grow up so quick these days #Corrie “.

Finally, one Corrie fan concluded: “Quite like the new Max but will miss the old one seeing as how we’ve watched him grow up. You can tell it’s him though. Storming upstairs to sulk when he’s getting told off #corrie “.

It was previously announced that the role of Max would be recast after having been previously played by actor Harry McDermott for the last 11 years on the ITV soap opera.

The character was recast due to the show wanting to take the character in a new direction.

A spokesperson for the soap previously said of the recast: “We have all watched Harry grow up alongside Max Turner for the past 11 years and we want to thank him for everything he has brought to the character.

“It is always a difficult decision to recast a role and we look forward to following Harry’s career as he continues with his acting studies and explores other opportunities. We wish him every success for the future.”

Previous storylines have seen Max struggle with the death of his mother Kylie Platt, the presence of his evil biological father Callum Turner, his ADHD diagnosis, and also clashes with step-dad David Platt.

On Friday, David will grow concerned as Max shows no interest in school and does not care for his homework.

David will turn to Max for help with extra tutoring but Daniel is not so keen.

Will this spell more trouble for the burgeoning teacher?

*Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV with previous episodes available on ITV Hub.
