Gabby Petito last spotted in Grand Teton National Park, tipster claims

GABBY Petito’s Instagram followers believe the missing backpacker’s Instagram posts have been “edited” by her fiancé.

Petito, 22, has been missing for two weeks after going on a cross-country road trip with fiancé, Brian Laundrie, 23.

Her Instagram account appears to give a timeline to her location over the past few weeks and a tipster has now claimed to have seen her in Grand Teton National Park.

Gabby and her boyfriend had planned a road trip through Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming that would finish in Yellowstone.

Some of the vlogger’s recent Instagram posts from July 22 say that they have been edited, fuelling allegations that they may have been tweaked or written by Laundrie.

The New Yorker was last seen on August 24 after leaving a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, with Laundrie. Her family held a joint press conference with Florida police focusing on her disappearance on Thursday.

While Gabby never returned home, her fiancé did and has since made headlines after he reportedly hired an attorney and refused to work with the police.

  • GABBY WAS TRACKING TRIP ON APP

Gabby Petito has apparently been planning out she and fiancé Brian Laundrie’s trip using an app called The Dyrt.

Her public account provides some additional clues about the likely route that the couple was planning on taking before Petito vanished.

Throughout their trip, which began in New York on July 4, Petito posted several reviews of campsites across the country and also had lists of places she intended to visit.

She reviewed one site near Bryce Canyon National Park on July 22, noting a “bumpy gravel road,” but “good service” where she could work from her computer.

  • ‘PERFECT LITTLE CAMPER’

“We drove through the Tetons and the only stop we made was at Jenny Lake,” Shannon Baker told KSLTV of the August 25 sighting.

“I’m sure of it,” she added.

“It had the black ladder on the back and the two black rooftops on top, the two bars, and we made the comment that would be the perfect little camper van to go around in.”

Baker said she didn’t think about the van again until she saw it being shared on social media.

“I said, ‘Oh my god! That’s the same van we saw,’” she claimed.

  • TIPSTER CONFIRMS LAST SIGHTING

A new tipster claims to have seen Gabby Petito’s white van Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on August 25.

It may be the key to tracking down her final movements before her disappearance.

“All those little pieces can be little pieces of the puzzle to help us figure out where Gabby is,” said Sgt. Clayton Platt with the Teton County Sheriff’s Office.

  • BODY CAM ‘DOESN’T HELP WITH SEARCH’

Gabby’s family reveals that the body cam footage does not help with the search because of the date it was from.

  • NEARBY MURDER

Utah cops are also not ruling out a “potential link” between the case and a couple’s murder near where Gabby allegedly fought with her fiance.

Newlyweds Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner were found dead by a friend in the La Sal mountain range on August 18.

The couple had been married for just four months and lived in a camper van.

A spokesperson for the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said: “We’re looking at everything.”

There’s no evidence that the two cases are connected at this time.

Detectives and FBI crews are working to try and find Gabby as the investigation continues.

  • WHAT DOES THE BODY CAM FOOTAGE SHOW?

On September 15, cops revealed that Brian Laundrie is a person of interest. He has not been charged with any crime.

Florida’s North Port Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday: “Brian Laundrie is a person of interest in this case.”

North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison added: “As a father, I can imagine the pain and suffering Gabby’s family is going through.

“We are pleading with anyone, including Brian, to share information with us on her whereabouts in the past few weeks.”

Her worried mom Nicole Schmidt says she remains hopeful that Gabby will return home.

Meanwhile, Gabby’s dad Joe Petito said he would not stop searching until she was found.

  • LAUNDRIE RETURNS HOME

Laundrie returned to Florida at the start of September and their couple’s camper van was seized just days later.

Detectives searched the vehicle for clues and evidence that may help the probe as police admitted the circumstances behind Gabby’s disappearance were “odd”.

Laundrie hired a lawyer and reportedly wouldn’t cooperate with the police.

  • LAST CONTACT WITH FRIENDS

The vlogger’s friend, who wanted to remain anonymous, told The Sun: “[The] last time I talk [ed] to Gabby was the beginning of August when we were planning for me to meet her in Yellowstone after my birthday.”

It appears that Gabby was planning to visit Yellowstone as she reportedly told her friends on Snapchat on August 27.

Gabby’s friend, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that they were planning to meet in Yellowstone after her birthday on August 29 but hadn’t finalized plans.

  • FINAL TEXT

Gabby was last spotted on August 24 leaving a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She last made contact with her family the next day as she told her parents that she was heading to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

But, a final text was sent from the vlogger’s phone on August 30 that reads “No service in Yosemite”.

Yosemite is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California – around 800 miles away from Grand Teton.

Gabby’s mom claims the final text was not sent from her – an allegation that seems to be backed up by a close friend of the vlogger who says that they were set to meet a Yellowstone National Park.

She told MailOnline: “That text was NOT from Gabby I know it!”

It remains unknown who sent the message.

  • UTAH

Days after the couple was silent on their Instagram channel, reports emerged that the pair had a “fight” while in Utah.

A police report detailing an alleged incident involving the couple revealed that Petito was “crying uncontrollably” in the passenger seat of their van after a “fight”.

The young vlogger was also “breathing heavily”, according to the document that was obtained by The Sun.

The police report also described Gabby as “confused and emotional”.

Officer Daniel Scott revealed a witness saw the couple “arguing over a phone” before the pair drove away.

Police confirmed that no significant injuries were reported.

Laundrie reportedly told the officer that he had been traveling with Petito for about four to five months and their arguments escalated.

The document states: “That time created emotional strain between them and increased the number of arguments.”

The pair reportedly spent the night apart afterward, Petito stayed in the van and Laundrie stayed at a nearby hotel, and the police report noted that both had their phones in case of an emergency.

  • ZION NATIONAL PARK

A post from July 18 shows them smiling together in a canyon at Zion National Park.

While she was there, a photo appears to show a blanket, tent, and pillows as the couple appear to have been camping under the stars.

The Zion Canyon is a renowned site for hikers across America who want to view the sunset and stars.

  • COLORADO

Days later, Gabby was snapped admiring the sun-kissed scenery that Great Sand Dunes National Park has to offer in southern Colorado.

Gabby, who has been described as “free-spirited” and adventurous by her parents, seems to be enjoying the road trip as she explores new sights.

A caption underneath the post says: “After going on our first road trip across the country in my tiny car, we felt like there was so much we missed.

“Turning this Ford Transit essentially into a camper was such an adventure in itself, but I couldn’t love the way it turned out more.

“All the places it’s brought us so far have been amazing.”

  • KANSAS

One of her earlier Instagram snaps dated from July 4 showed Gabby posing barefoot in Gove County Kansas.

She also uploaded snaps of her boyfriend Laundrie sitting on top of their Ford Transit white camper van – which has been seized by cops in the investigation.

  • TIMELINE

The pair left New York at the start of July and planned to visit Yellowstone National Park – before Gabby mysteriously disappeared and was reported missing on September 11.

They embarked on their road trip after visiting family and attending Gabby’s brother’s high school graduation.

They planned to travel across the western states of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming before visiting Yellowstone National Park.

But, Gabby was last spotted in Utah on August 24 before Laundrie returned to Florida alone.

He has since been declared a person of interest by cops as they accuse him of “hindering” the investigation.

  • POLICE USE TWITTER TO ASK LAUNDRIE FAMILY FOR HELP

North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison took to Twitter to reach out to the family of Gabby Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie.

“Please call us to arrange a conversation with Brian Laundrie,” said the Chief’s message to the family’s attorney Steven Bertolino.

“Two people left on a trip and one person returned!” he added.

Brian has refused to speak to police and has invoked his Fifth Amendment right.

  • POLICE SAY THEY KNOW WHERE BRIAN LAUNDRIE IS

North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said on Thursday that police know where Gabby Petito’s fiancé is.

“We know where Brian is at but I’m not going to say which location he is at,” North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison told News Nation.

“Two people went on a trip, one returned. The one who returned is not talking,” added Chief Garrison.

“I truly believe he has the answers we are looking for.”

  • WHERE IS GABBY’S FIANCE BRIAN?

Brian Laundrie returned to the couple’s home in North Port, Florida, on September 1.

He allegedly brought back the van they were traveling in, but Gabby did not return home with him.

His parents also live in the North Port area, but it’s unclear where Brian is currently staying.

He and his family have directed all questions to their attorney.

  • WHEN DID GABBY’S FAMILY LAST HEAR FROM HER?

Gabby Petito’s family have said they last heard from the 22-year-old during the last week of August.

The YouTuber is believed to have been in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming before that last communication, according to police.

The family’s attorney Richard Stafford said the family received a message from Gabby on August 30, but they did not believe it was really from her

  • LAUNDRIE FAMILY STATEMENT

While Gabby’s fiance Brian has not spoken to police about her disappearance, his family released the following statement through their attorney:

“This is understandably an extremely difficult time for both the Petito family and the Laundrie family. It is our understanding that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. On behalf of the Laundrie family, it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is reunited with her family. On the advice of counsel, the Laundrie family is remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment.”

  • WHO IS BRIAN LAUNDRIE?

Gabby Petito’s fiance is a YouTuber who documented his travels with the 22-year-old missing Long Island native.

He returned home to Florida with the couple’s traveling van, but without Gabby.

Laundrie is now a person of interest in the disappearance, but has refused to speak with authorities so far.

  • GABBY ‘WOULDN’T GO OFF ON HER OWN’

A friend of Gabby Petito says the 22-year-old would not have gone off on her own.

“I wish that could be a possibility, I do, she’s not a person that would just go off on her own like that,” Steven Evans told Ashleigh Banfield.

“She’s an independent person, but not like that. She wouldn’t just fall off the grid and not come in contact with family. She would call her parents every day, sometimes a couple of times a day, so this is just very, very out of the ordinary.”

  • GABBY AND BRIAN WERE ‘COUPLE GOALS’

A friend of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie said they were “couple goals” and always seemed happy.

Nicole Kalanich, who worked with the couple at a grocery store before they set out on their cross-country trip, described them as “happy and cheerful.”

“They never complained,” Kalanich told Insider. “They were couple goals for me.”

  • BRIAN LAUNDRIE INVOKED HIS 5TH AMENDMENT RIGHT

As long as the investigation into the whereabouts of Gabby Petito remains a missing person case, there is not much authorities can do to get her boyfriend Brian Laundrie to speak to them, as he is invoking the 5th amendment.

Under this constitutional right, those who have not been charged with a crime are protected from having to be questioned by police.

However, if the case becomes criminal, there are more possibilities that Laundrie could be questioned as a suspect.
