Wasteful Brentford learn another painful lesson about Premier League

ust like their defeat against Chelsea, this loss to Leicester was a game Brentford will look back on and wonder how they came away from it with nothing.

They were the better side over the course of the 90 minutes here at the Brentford Community Stadium, finishing the game with 54 per cent of the possession and 15 shots on goal. Leicester, in contrast, spent the majority of the match defending and their goals were two moments of quality that really were bolts from the blue.

Youri Tielemans and James Maddison struck either side of Zanka’s header to give the Foxes all three points, but even Brendan Rodgers will admit they rode their luck at times.

Like against Chelsea, Brentford knocked on the door and deserved more – particularly during the first-half. They started at a great tempo, going close through Pontus Jansson after a matter of minutes.

Ivan Toney then had a goal ruled out for offside and Bryan Mbeumo missed a great chance when clean through.

Brentford should have been ahead, but instead they were undone by a moment of real quality from Tielemans – who rocketed the ball into the top corner after a free-kick had been cleared to him on the edge of the box.

After taking the lead inside the first 15 minutes you thought Leicester would kick on, however it was Brentford who continued to dominate. By half-time they had over 60 per cent of the possession, but still trailed.

They finally equalised on the hour mark as Zanka headed home Mathias Jensen’s corner at the near post. It was no more than they deserved but, just as it looked like they would complete a comeback, Leicester produced another moment of real quality.

This time it was a team effort as a slick counter attack ended in Patson Daka squaring the ball for Maddison to tap home with 17 minutes to go.

It was backs-to-the-wall defending after that from Leicester, particularly during the seven minutes of injury time, but they held on to claim the win.
