Solskjaer previews Man Utd v Liverpool in Premier League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United players that their title dream is already in the balance – just eight games into the season.

United face Liverpool at Old Trafford having picked up just a single point from their last three games at the start of a daunting run of fixtures that will also pit them against Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Solskjaer insists his team will get better – but he knows that any more mistakes could prove fatal in his bid to bring the title back to the red side of Manchester for the first time in nine years.

Solskjaer said: “We’ve lost some points recently that we’re not happy with.

“But we are in the situation we’re in and we have to take it from here and really, really get going.

“There’s no time to lose. Because even though it’s a long season the teams we are competing against are not going to give you too many options to catch them.”

United were thumped 4-2 at Leicester last weekend after losing at home to Aston Villa and then escaping with a lucky point against Everton at Old Trafford.

But Solskjaer’s men eased the growing pressure on their manager by storming back from 2-0 down against Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night to prevail 3-2.

Solskjaer believes his team remain a work in progress following Cristiano Ronaldo ’s emotional return to the club and the £81million capture of Jadon Sancho.

He said: “I’d expect us to improve in the next couple of months, definitely.

“Of course Cristiano has been here for a month, Jadon has been here for two months and Marcus Rashford is just coming back.

“Edinson Cavani had to wait longer in the run up to when he could join us as well.

“It is exciting to have these types of players to work with, but then it is about finding the right balance.”
