The French striker has been strongly linked with a transfer to Real Madrid but he was the difference in Sunday’s Ligue 1 victory over Reims for Mauricio Pochettino’s side
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has broken his silence on the transfer rumours linking striker Kylian Mbappe with a move to Real Madrid.
The French striker is the subject of intense transfer interest from Los Blancos but PSG have stood firm on his future and have rejected multiple offers for their asset.
Mbappe – who is out of contract next summer – was the hero for the Parisians in their Ligue 1 victory over Reims this weekend as he netted twice in a two-goal victory for Pochettino’s side.
With less than two days remaining in the summer transfer window, time is running out for the Spanish giants to conclude a deal for the striker.
PSG have enjoyed a spectacular summer which has included the signing of Lionel Messi as a free agent following his exit from Barcelona.
The arrival of Messi followed the signings of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Achraf Hakimi as they look to reclaim their league title and earn success in the Champions League.
Sunday’s win at Reims continued the club’s perfect start to the league season as Pochettino’s side have won four games from four.
Pochettino explained after the game: “He is our player. But you know the business, it’s full of rumours. Our president and our director are very clear. He is here with us and we are happy with him. He is an important player, and it is a gift to have him with us.”
A handful of Mbappe’s teammates have also spoken about the striker’s future game amid speculation that he could be on his way out of the French capital.
Brazilian defender Marquinhos said: “We don’t even try to ask him about his future. He has his goals, but if we think about ourselves, we want him to stay. And if he stays, he will help us a lot.
“Our attack is magic, but he does not make us forget the others. It is important to have an efficient team. The season is long.”

Meanwhile, Marco Verratti added: “Of course I want him to stay. We like to play with the strongest. We didn’t discover Kylian today. He has been scoring a lot of goals for a few years. He is a phenomenon; we are very happy with him.”
Mbappe has now taken his goal tally this season to three in four matches and he has now bagged 135 goals across 175 appearances for the French club.
The 22-year-old joined PSG from Monaco in the summer of 2017 originally on a loan deal but with a €170million obligation to buy which was automatically activated the following year – in what remains the second most expensive transfer of all time.
