The Premier League will see two 12:30pm kick-offs on Saturday for an unusual reason.

Chelsea will host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, while Manchester United welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford football ground to get the weekend underway.

That means three teams tipped to contend for the title will be action at the same time, each playing their sixth game of the top-flight season.

Pep Guardiola’s men travel to London looking to bounce back from their slip up at home to Southampton but Thomas Tuchel’s side stand in their way.

And City have lost all three of their meetings with the Blues since Tuchel took charge, including an FA Cup semi-final and Champions League final this year.

Meanwhile, United are aiming to maintain their 100 per cent home record this term as Villa come to town.

That match was originally set to take place at 3pm but a nearby concert that evening has shifted the fixture back at the request of Trafford Council Safety Advisory Group.

Manchester band, and United supporters, Courteeners will be playing at Old Trafford cricket ground on Saturday night, a gig which is sold out and set to house 50,000 fans getting what could be their first live music fix since the start of the global pandemic.

They will be supported by City fan and ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, alongside Blossoms (also Citizens), Zuzu (a proud Everton supporter) and The Big Moon from London.

In a statement, the Red Devils said: “Our home match against Aston Villa on 25 September has been brought forward to a 12:30 BST kick-off, following a request from Trafford Council Safety Advisory Group to move the game due to the Courteeners concert at Lancashire Cricket Club, Emirates Old Trafford, on the same day.

“This request was supported by Greater Manchester Police and TfGM [Transport for Greater Manchester] to avoid significant crowd, traffic and operational issues locally,” it added as the two stadiums are less than one mile apart.

“We regret any disruption that this may cause around our supporters’ plans for the day.”

All four clubs will be involved in League Cup action during the week.

City host League One Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday and Chelsea play Villa on Wednesday at 7:45pm, when United will once again face off against West Ham like they did on Sunday.

Solskjaer has already given some early team news regarding his starting XI, confirming that match-winner Jesse Lingard will feature against his former club once again.

“He’ll play, of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes,” he explained.

“I’m so happy for him because you know it’s ups and downs in football. He was low on Tuesday, now high again, he scored against Newcastle, you’re up, you’re down, you’re up – but that’s football.

Solskjaer continued: “It was a great goal. Of course, he had a tough evening on Tuesday but he’s knuckled down and worked hard again.

“He’s been the same bright, positive lad and what a goal. A great pass by Nemanja, a good turn by Jesse and a great goal.”
