Jurgen Klopp lauds Mo Salah after goal v Man City

As Liverpool and Watford meet in the Premier League for their first game back after the international break, Ismalia Sarr has a chance to prove FSG wrong for not splashing the cash for him.

Before Liverpool bought in Diogo Jota, they had considered a number of other alternatives including then RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Watford ’s Sarr.

Liverpool had been then interested in snapping up the Senegalese winger and reportedly considered him ahead of Jota in their shortlist to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

However, Watford demanded the £40million fee upfront and Liverpool were not keen.

Instead, they went for Jota and only had to fork out £5million immediately, the rest paid out in instalments.

Sarr’s agent claimed that the January move was on the verge of completion until the Reds collapsed it.

His agent Seydi told Panafricanfootball: “Everything was sorted: the monthly wages and the length of the deal. I’d even asked Sadio Mané to find him an apartment.

“But in the end, the English club weren’t able to put the €40m on the table to finalise the affair.”

Sarr is good friends with Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, but now will be looking to see his friend on the losing side once more as the two sides meet.

In March 2020, soon after the failed transfer, Sarr led Watford to crash Liverpool’s party and end their unbeaten run in the Premier League winning season.

In a shock upset 3-0 win, Sarr scored two goals and assisted Troy Deeney for the third in a game that left the Premier League stunned.

For the first goal, Sarr slipped into the box and nipped in front of Andy Robertson to tap in at the near post.

The second saw him latch onto a Troy Deeney long ball that he cooly and calmly dinked over Allison and into the net.

He returned the favour for Deeney after going round Allison and laying the ball off for the veteran striker who finished well.

Sarr was on fire that game as he ripped through Liverpool’s defence and left Anfield silent.

The shock 3-0 win ended the champions elect’s unbeaten run that season and left the Reds stunned and was a vital three points for a struggling Watford.

Now Sarr has been handed a reunion with Liverpool and FSG and a chance to remind the Reds of their mistake in not buying him.

The talented winger will look to expose a weakened Liverpool at the back as it seems likely Allison will miss the tie.

It is another chance to prove FSG were wrong for scrimping on him in the transfer window and remind them of everything they missed out on.

The 23-year-old will also look to recreate that March meeting this weekend.
