After a remarkably turbulent week in football, one of the Premier League’s great rivalries resumes at Elland Road on Sunday as Leeds host Man United.
This time last weekend, the first whisperings were starting to emerge regarding the proposed European Super League breakaway, but by Tuesday night Man United and the other five English clubs involved had pulled out in the face of intense criticism.
By that point, Leeds fans had already made their feelings clear, protesting outside the ground ahead of Monday’s clash with another ESL outfit Liverpool, while their players warmed up in t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Earn it”, in reference to the closed-shop nature of the breakaway.
All that has added even more spice to a fixture that hardly needs it. The first Premier League meeting between the sides since 2004 took place earlier this season, with Man United running out 6-2 winners in a remarkable game at Old Trafford.
