The Leeds United striker has been included in Gareth Southgate’s 25-man squad, while Jesse Lingard is also recalled, but there is no place for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell

Southgate hopes to lead England at World Cup in 2022

Patrick Bamford has won an England call-up for Gareth Southgate’s 25 man squad for the World Cup treble header.

Leeds striker Bamford, 27, has yet to win a cap and missed out on the Euros in the summer.

Bamford is the only uncapped player brought into the squad, having impressed since Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League last summer.

There is no place for Mason Greenwood, but Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to the group, having missed the Euros through injury.

There is also a recall for Jesse Lingard despite his recent Covid absence but Leicester ’s Harvey Barnes misses out while there is no place for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.

Arsenal’s £50million new boy Ben White also misses out, while Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden are both missing through injury.

The Three Lions kick off their World Cup qualification bid with a triple-header against Hungary, Andorra and Poland.
