Sir Alex Ferguson managed some incredible players during his Man Utd tenure but has plenty of admiration for today’s stars including Mason Greenwood and Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson worked with plenty of high class players during his time at Old Trafford.
The Scot presided over a trophy-laden period at Old Trafford that spanned 27 years before his retirement in 2013.
During that period the Red Devils captured 13 Premier League titles as well as two Champions League successes.
He worked with the likes of Bryan Robson in his early days before managing Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.
Many of those have now hung up their boots as the game’s current leading players never crossed paths with Ferguson.
However he still has plenty of admiration for today’s individuals and highlighted Tottenham pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as particular stand outs.

“[Harry] Kane,” he said when quizzed on which players impressed him nowadays. “I thought [Dele] Alli was going to be a top player. I must admit, I don’t know what has gone on there.
“Kane and the boy Son [Heung-min] at Tottenham, these have been excellent players.
“[Sergio] Aguero has been a terrific striker, there’s no doubt about that. His goalscoring has been exceptional.
“The top teams will always produce a player that can stand out.”
Kane and Son have both netted against United whilst Aguero scored a famous winner at Old Trafford in Ferguson’s last ever Manchester derby.
The Argentine has now departed the Etihad but Pep Guardiola has unearthed a gem in Phil Foden.
The Catalan has eased the youngster in slowly, but he is now amongst the first names on the team sheet.
Ferguson believes the City midfielder is alongside Mason Greenwood as the country’s most exciting young talents.
He told LADbibleTV : “Mason Greenwood, in my opinion, is going to be a top player.
“He’s got the coolness and the coldness of a great striker. He never panics, his shots are always low, he’s always inside the posts. He’s shown great qualities.
“He’s younger than the boy Phil Foden, who is the one player that has come through at Man City who has taken the place of David Silva.
“He’s been tremendous. Those two are the best [young players] in England.”
United have several academy graduates in the first team picture.
Marcus Rashford has been involved for more than five years now whilst Scott McTominay has been able to establish himself.
Ferguson used to have players he called upon during big games, the likes of Park Ji-Sung, and he sees his compatriot as a similar type of individual.
“Scott McTominay is now emerging as one of Man United’s big players. When you watch Man United pick their team for a big game, McTominay’s name is in it. He’s a good character, a great trainer.
“I know a little bit about the boy and I think that’s the background.”
Ferguson has also singled out more of his compatriots for praise.
Arguably Scotland’s two most impressive players both occupy the same position – left-back.
Kieran Tierney has adapted impressively to life at Arsenal following his move in 2019 whilst Andy Robertson has been a crucial part of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp.
Ferguson said earlier this year: “Tierney has been fantastic at Arsenal, absolutely fantastic, Robertson the last two years at Liverpool has been unbelievable.”
