Conor McGregor ‘s latest tweet-and-delete has come after his UFC rival Nate Diaz hinted at a fight against Tony Ferguson.

Diaz fought for the first time in 18-months in June when was outpointed by Leon Edwards at UFC 263.

The UFC fan favourite has since been linked to a fight against surging welterweight Vicente Luque, but judging by Diaz’s latest tweet that matchup is seemingly off the table.

Diaz tweeted a cryptic picture of Ferguson holding a UFC title, all but teasing a fight with ‘El Cucuy’.

And McGregor was quick to reply with a captionless picture of him and Joe Rogan after his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

McGregor is currently recovering from a broken tibia he suffered in his trilogy against Poirier.

Diaz and Ferguson were linked to fight in 2017, but the matchup never materialised.

Both men are currently in poor form, with Diaz losing his last fights against Edwards and Jorge Masvidal whilst Ferguson has dropped his last three.

Diaz was recently advised by Dominic Cummings – former chief adviser to Prime Minister Boris Johnson – to not sign a new contract with the promotion.

He bizarrely urged Diaz to let UFC president Dana White eventually chase him up to pursue a trilogy with McGregor.

Diaz handed McGregor his first UFC defeat in 2016, but the Irishman would avenge his loss later that year.

Popular MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks the UFC are reluctant on making Luque vs Diaz as the promotion wants to hold out for Diaz’s trilogy with McGregor.

Diaz reportedly has one fight left on his UFC deal, whilst McGregor signed a six fight deal with the promotion in 2018.

“I believe Nate Diaz has one fight left on his contract. I like the fight. I think it’s a great fight. I think the UFC, it’s a business, they want to make money and I think Nate and Conor [McGregor] will make them so much money,” Abdelaziz told MMA Fighting.

“I think the only way the UFC will agree to make this fight happen [is] if Nate re-signs with the UFC. But I don’t know if this is good for Nate to re-sign with the UFC.

“I understand the business. I understand the UFC’s point but they know we want the fight, Nate wants the fight but at the end of the day, they hold the contract.

“I can push as much as I can but I don’t know what they want to do. Vicente, 100 percent will fight Nate or Nick [Diaz].”
