Chelsea vs Southampton: Carabao Cup – LIVE!

Thomas Tuchel’s side sit top of the Premier League after nine games and three points clear of Zenit Saint Peterburg in their Champions League group, so it would be reasonable to assume that the German manager has other priorities.

Still, he does have an enviable squad from which to choose so, while he did admit changes were likely ahead of the visit of Southampton, even the rotational options should be high quality players.

While Southampton have been struggling towards the bottom of the Premier League this season, they are the only team outside of Manchester City to have taken points off Chelsea in a domestic context so far, adding an extra level of intrigue to the contest.

With kick-off at 7:45pm BST, follow all the action with Dan Kilpatrick at Stamford Bridge!

Your Evening Standard prediction

Tuesday’s game represents yet another chance for Tuchel to demonstrate his frightening squad depth, having watched his side put seven past Norwich despite not having a recognised striker available.

Predicted Chelsea lineup

Here’s how we expect the hosts to lineup later.

Chelsea predicted XI: Kepa; Sarr, Christensen, Chalobah; Azpilicueta, Loftus-Cheek, Saul, Alonso; Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz.

Early Chelsea team news

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Thomas Tuchel has admitted changes are ‘very likely’.

“Everybody can put their heads together and make decisions because we have to admit we have the late game on Wednesday and the early game on Saturday and now another one on Tuesday.

“So it is very likely we have some changes. At the moment I am happy that everyone who plays, plays with the same style and intensity.

“How many changes I do not know.”
