The best rollercoasters at Thorpe Park from Stealth to Saw ranked and rated

Since outdoor hospitality and attractions were allowed to re-open on April 12, a steady stream of Londoners have been making the short journey to Thorpe Park in Surrey, eager for thrills.

The enormous theme park is often judged the best in the country and is easily reached from everywhere in the South East of England.

Unlike other UK theme parks like Chessington and Alton Towers, Thorpe Park is particularly popular with adults due to the high octane nature of many of its star attractions.

From the jaw dropping Stealth ride to the stomach churning Samurai, Thorpe Park is home to dozens of attractions that excite revellers in equal measure.

That being said though, there are some rides that are better than others.

In order to ascertain which ride in Thorpe Park was truly the best, we judged the park’s 11 thrill rides on how fun they actually were.

This is the order we ranked them in, starting from number 11.

11. Zodiac

Zodiac is a Ferris wheel from hell that rotates you up and down through the power of G-force located in the Aztec themed part of the park.

Launched in 2001, the ride has been largely left behind by some of the parks newer attractions.

It’s a fun time despite its age, but it doesn’t pack the punch it once did.

Verdict: 5 thrills of out 10

10. Tidal Wave

Tidal Wave will soak you

Tidal Wave is situated right in the middle of the park where the annoying Amity style American radio plays.

Famed for its wetness, the ride will get you soaked and sends up a tower of water so high it also drenches other park goers.

It’s great while you’re doing it, but staying wet after it always leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Plus it’s over far too quickly.

Verdict: 5 and a half thrills out of 10

9. Rush

A large part of the thrill you get out of giant swing ride Rush comes from its seat bar mechanism.

Rather than a whole body harness, ride goers are secured by a lap bar which doesn’t feel safe despite the fact it definitely is.

The ride itself is one of the most terrifying in the park but it can be over quite quickly.

It’s definitely one to check out, but there are better thrills lurking around.

Verdict: 6 thrills out of 10

8. Vortex

Vortex is one of the most familiar looking rides at Thorpe Park as a version of the pendulum swing exists in pretty much every fun fair in the UK.

But where those swings are relatively fiddly, Vortex is a veritable brute of a swing.

The enormous wheel can manage 15 high speed rotations per minute and takes ride goers 65 feet up into the air.

It’s a fantastic ride, but competition dictates this is its final position.

Verdict: 7 thrills out of 10

7. Colossus

Colossus at Thorpe Park

There’ll doubtless be howls of shock from the rollercoaster purists here – but 7th is about where Colussus sits in the grand scheme of things.

The beautiful coaster is famous for its 10 inversions and is one of the longest rides in the park but the sad truth is its been left behind a bit in terms of speed when compared to the other rides at the park.

Of course, a trip to the park isn’t complete without riding it, but there are better attractions around now.

Verdict: 7 thrills out of 10

6. Detonator: Bombs Away

Detonator is thrilling

Detonator is a 100 foot drop tower located in the centre of the park.

It doesn’t have the flashy reputation of some of its roller coaster neighbours, but in terms of pure thrills, it offers the best in the park.

The sensation of free falling is an adrenaline high so pure it cannot be replicated anywhere else in the park.

It loses spots on the list as you only drop the once which means it’s all over quite quickly.

Verdict: 9 thrills out of 10

5. Samurai

Samurai is one of Thorpe Park’s hidden gems

Samurai is one of the most underrated attractions in Thorpe Park.

Its location, hunched behind Saw and Colussus doesn’t help it stand out and its long wait lines aren’t the best but its all worth it for the ride.

Samurai is one of the most exhilarating rides in the park as you’re spun 360 degrees while a whopping 60ft above the ground.

It will make you sick, but its worth it.

Verdict: 8 thrills out of 10

4. Nemesis Inferno

Nemesis Inferno is a brutal ride

Nemesis Inferno is based of Alton Tower’s own corkscrew ride of the same name but is immeasurably better in every way.

The ride is fast and violent and has some of the best scenery anywhere in the park.

Waiting times can be long but the ride, which is one of the longest in the park, is well worth it.

Verdict: 8 thrills out of 10

3. The Swarm

The Swarm is a fantastic ride

The Swarm is the park’s newest rollercoaster and is based on the admittedly naff concept of aliens taking over London.

If you can forgive such a childish set up you’ll be treated to one of the fastest rides in the park.

It’s also the most graceful coaster you’ll ever go on, and gives off the very real impression of flight.

For that reason and many others, it takes 3rd place.

Verdict: 9 thrills out of 10

2. Saw

The Saw ride claimed to be the most terrifying rollercoaster in the world

Saw is very unlucky to miss out on the top spot.

It’s probably the most nerve shredding ride in the entire park and definitely one of the wildest.

The past vertical drop into the waiting saw blades takes some topping but one ride managed it.

Verdict: 9 and a half thrills out of 10

1. Stealth

Stealth is the best ride at Thorpe Park

Quite simply, Stealth is the best rollercoaster in the UK.

It takes real guts to ride on Stealth which reaches speeds of 80mph in less than two seconds and has a drop of over 60 meters from its peak.

Until you’ve went on Stealth, you really haven’t experienced Thorpe Park.

Verdict: 10 thrills out of 10
