Confused The Chase fans left asking if show has ‘run out of celebs’

The Chase viewers were left confused after the children’s television character Basil Brush appeared as a competitor on the show.

Some unimpressed fans questioned whether the show had run out of real celebrities as they turned to the fictional red fox glove puppet.

Basil Brush joined fellow celebrities Sam Quek, Andi Peters and Charlie Higson as they tested their knowledge against the chaser in the hopes of winning the prize pot.

The well-known character has featured on children’s television since the 1960s and has regularly appeared in pantomimes and at public events, such as the turning on of Christmas lights.

The episode shown tonight (Sunday, April 25) was a rerun of an episode from December 2017, but that didn’t stop confused fans questioning Basil’s appearance again.

One viewer hilariously took to Twitter to ask: “Basil Brush is on The Chase. Have I taken drugs?”

While another said: “Basil Brush is on the chase.. So have they run out of celebrities?”

“Can’t believe I’m watching Basil Brush on ‘The Chase’. It’s like car crash TV. And I can’t seem to take me eyes off of it,” added another conflicted viewer.

Some viewers were more excited to see the character make an appearance on the show though, with one fan tweeting: “Basil Brush was comic genius on #TheChase. He needs to host his own quiz show.”

Another said: “Basil Brush by far the best celebrity to have come on The Chase.”

The character turned out to be an asset to the celebrity team when he bagged £8,000 for his team as he went against chaser Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan.

Amazingly the surviving team of Basil, Sam and Charlie went on to win an incredible £23,000 in the final chase for charity.
