Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt won Serie A in his first season at the club after transferring from Ajax in a £63million deal but he could be on the move again as agent Mino Raiola drums up interest
Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt could be in line for a move to the Premier League as soon as next summer, with reports claiming agent Mino Raiola is ‘threatening’ to take the defender away from Turin.
The 22-year-old defender, who joined Juve for £63m in 2019 after helping previous club Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, became a Serie A champion in his first season in the competition.
However, despite the centre-back continuing to play a big role for his club, Raiola has reportedly had contact with Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona regarding a potential move away from Juventus at the end of the season.
After winning Serie A in 2019-20, Juventus struggled last season and only clinched their spot in the Champions League on the final day of the campaign.
This season, the Italian club started slowly, winning none of their first four games as they adapted to the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, but De Ligt scored their first winning goal of the season at Spezia and has helped the Bianconeri climb the table.
The Dutch international also played 90 minutes as Massimiliano Allegri’s team beat Chelsea to go top of their Champions League group after two matches, and was a regular starter for his country at Euro 2020 before being sent off as they were eliminated by the Czech Republic in the last 16.
However, according to Calciomercato, the player’s agent has entered talks with potential suitors despite De Ligt reportedly having shown no ‘signs of intolerance’ at his current club.
Furthermore, a €150m (£126m) release clause could yet be off-putting, with Juventus reportedly unprepared to offer ‘discounts’ to any potential suitor.

Super-agent Raiola has plenty of experience dealing with Premier League clubs, having brought the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to England in high-profile moves over the past few years.
The Italian also represents his compatriot Gianluigi Donnarumma, who completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain after winning Euro 2020, and another Premier League-linked player in the form of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
De Ligt arrived at Juventus as one of the biggest stars of the Ajax team which came within minutes of the 2019 Champions League final, and was linked with a move to Barcelona before eventually opting for Italy.
His Dutch international team-mates Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong and Luuk de Jong are all currently at Camp Nou, as is former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman.
The youngster was praised by Koeman before playing in Juventus’ 3-0 win against Barcelona in last season’s Champions League, with the Barca boss saying it was a ‘pity’ De Ligt had chosen not to join his club upon leaving Ajax.
Manchester City and Chelsea, the two clubs reportedly contacted by Raiola regarding a potential move, boasted the best defensive records in last season’s Premier League and have each conceded just three goals in their first eight games this term.
