Kylian Mbappe is in the final year of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have reportedly spotted an opportunity to sign the French star next summer
Manchester United could reportedly join the race to sign Kylian Mbappe next summer if the French striker runs down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
United have made two high-profile signings this summer, adding Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their squad for the 2021/22 campaign.
The Old Trafford club have spent over £100million to sign Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Varane from Real Madrid, but they are already planning for the future.
United managed to extend Edinson Cavani’s contract for a further season after his impactful first campaign in which he contributed 17 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

But Cavani will be 35 by the time his current contract expires in June 2022, meaning United will likely be on the lookout for a new striker.
According to ESPN , that has led the club to consider a blockbuster move for PSG star Mbappe, whose current deal expires next summer.
Mbappe has been strongly linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, who have long desired to turn the 22-year-old into a ‘Galactico’ signing.

However, Real will have plenty of competition for his signature, should Mbappe decide to move on from PSG following their acquisition of Lionel Messi.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently on a watching brief with Mbappe, who has been the subject of increased speculation recently after Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi touched down in Paris.
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has played down the rumours, insisting Mbappe is happy and that the club’s hierarchy are working on a new deal for him.
“The important thing is that he is calm, the club knows what they are going to do,” he said on Thursday.
“He has one more year of his contract and if not he renews. He is a PSG player, he is happy with us and we are happy with him.”
There are plenty of ifs involved in United landing a player of Mbappe’s calibre, but one thing is certain: if they did Solskjaer would have a mouth-watering side on his hands.
The additions of Sancho and Varane have already vastly improved two problem positions for United, while the 5-1 win over Leeds last weekend showed the kind of form Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes are in.
Like Mbappe, Pogba has entered the final year of his contract but United are hopeful he will commit his future to the club despite interest from PSG.
Meanwhile, by next summer Dean Henderson may well have established himself as United’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of David de Gea, who will still have another year on his £375,000 per week contract by June 2022.
Marcus Rashford will have come back from the shoulder surgery which is currently keeping him off the pitch, while the likes of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Dan James, Amad and Anthony Elanga will offer depth on the substitutes’ bench.
Potential Man Utd XI in the summer of 2022: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes; Sancho, Rashford, Mbappe.
