Liverpool linked with last-gasp transfer bid for winger amid Kylian Mbappe boost

Liverpool have been linked with a last-gasp bid for a winger but could face competition from Leeds, while a report has claimed the Reds weighed up an £86m bid for a midfielder

Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea: Reds player ratings

Liverpool have had a relatively quiet transfer window during a summer of sensational switches.

With Chelsea having signed Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City landing Jack Grealish, and Cristiano Ronaldo heading to Manchester United, the Reds have, by comparison, gone under the radar.

Jurgen Klopp has said his side would target any player they felt would improve the squad – with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma believed to be in their sights.

And with three days left until the transfer deadline, the Premier League giants continue to be linked with new additions.

Mirror Football is on hand with all the latest Liverpool transfer news for Sunday.

Reds could make last-ditch move for Euro 2020 star

Liverpool have been linked with a last-ditch move for Mikkel Damsgaard – but could face competition from Leeds.

The Sampdoria winger was linked with Tottenham this summer after impressing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

But Damsgaard remains at Sampdoria – and now a report from Italy claims the Reds could move for him.

Liverpool and Leeds are ‘eligible candidates’ to swoop for the 21-year-old before the transfer window shuts next week, according to La Repubblica.

Sport Witness interprets this to mean the Premier League clubs have shown interest in Damsgaard during the summer.

Whether either club will move for him remains to be seen, but he could prove a bargain at around £20m.

Liverpool ‘considered £86m bid’

A report from Spain has claimed Liverpool considered splashing out €100m (£86m) to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid this summer.

But the midfielder’s agent told Klopp’s side he wasn’t interested in a move, according to Bernabeu Digital.

The publication says Valverde’s camp informed the Reds that the 23-year-old was intent on renewing his contract with Los Blancos. He this week signed a new deal keeping him at the Bernabeu until 2027.

Given Liverpool’s spending habits in recent seasons, it seems unlikely they would have offered that much for Valverde.

But with Yves Bissouma also in their sights, it appears they haven’t given up on adding to their engine room following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum.

Madrid’s Mbappe move could be good news for Reds

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe move could be good news for Liverpool.

The La Liga giants this week made a bid of €170m (£146m) for the Paris Saint-Germain star.

And if Mbappe heads to the Bernabeu it could benefit Klopp’s side – despite the fact he has previously been linked with a move to Anfield.

According to former England defender Danny Mills, if Madrid land the 22-year-old, Mohamed Salah would definitely sign a contract extension – because the Reds star is “too good” to go anywhere else.

“Real Madrid are now looking at Mbappe, if not this season definitely next because he’ll be on a free,” Mills told Football Insider.

Barcelona are an amazing club but is as attractive as it once was? Probably not is the answer to that.

“He’s not going to go to anywhere in England, I don’t see that happening.

“PSG? They’re pretty loaded up front. They’re doing okay for players!

“He’s a fantastic player but he’s too good for most and there aren’t too many places he could go.

“I would be surprised if he doesn’t sign a new long-term deal soon.”
