Experts reveal the exact time of day you should be asking for a pay rise

A new study has revealed that there’s actually a specific time of day you should be asking your boss for a raise to give you the best chances of bagging the extra cash

Asking your boss for a raise when your cortisol levels are high will give you the best chance of success

We’d all love to have a little more cash in our pockets, but asking your boss for a raise can be a daunting task – especially if you think it’s likely they’ll say no.

But did you know there’s actually an optimal time of day to sit your boss down for the salary chat, which could help you flip that no into a yes?

A new study of data from more than 88,000 people for database UK Biobank has found that 11am is deemed the best time to ask for more money at work, The Sun reports.

This is because your body’s stress hormone, cortisol, is still high at this time of day, which gives you more energy to make your case for a pay rise – and your boss is more likely to hear you out.

Experts also say you should go to bed between 10 and 11pm for the best night’s sleep

The new study also revealed the perfect times of day for other day-to-day tasks, including when you should weigh yourself, what time you should have breakfast, and the optimal time to go to sleep.

According to the report, you’re better off weighing yourself first thing in the morning at around 6am – but make sure you’ve emptied your bladder first to get the most accurate results.

At 7am, you should be taking any vitamin supplements – which absorb best on an empty stomach – and if you’re trying for a baby, 7:30am is the best time to take a pregnancy test because the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is most concentrated at this time.

Breakfast is best consumed at 7:45am, before visiting the doctor at 8am.

American researchers have stated seeing a doctor in the morning can increase your chances of getting breast or colon cancer screening within a year of the appointment, because by the afternoon, it’s more likely that the doctor has fallen behind with their work tasks.

The UK Biobank study says 8:30am is when we should be tackling our bills and other life admin tasks because our cortisol levels are highest at this time, while 10:30am should be when we do our food shopping.

At 12pm we should be taking a brisk 20-minute walk to soak up an all-important dose of vitamin D before tucking into our lunch at 1pm.

The study even revealed the best time for sex is apparently 3pm, when men and women’s hormones are the most in sync.

Between 3pm and 6pm is when we should be getting in our daily exercise, and it’s also within these hours that hand-eye co-ordination is at its peak, which makes it the best time for cleaning your house.

Dinner should be eaten at 5pm, while experts say the best time to buy shoes is 6pm because your feet swell up during the day, so you can buy the best-fitting shoes in the evening.

Showering at 9pm can help promote sleep as raising your body temperature and letting it drop makes you feel drowsy and relaxed.

We should all be flossing our teeth at 9:45pm, before we finally hit the hay between 10 and 11pm for the perfect night’s sleep.
