Ed Sheeran stunned on the red carpet for the GQ Men of the Year Awards on Wednesday and thanked Elton John for his fashion tips
When you need a helping hand with your outfit choice, you ask your friends’ opinions, right?
The Bad Habits singer, 30, called on the help of the Rocketman star, 74, to make him “feel good” about his choice of clothing.
And the veteran singer didn’t disappoint as he pointed him in the direction of Donatella Versace and ended up with a very snazzy “out there” number.
Ed explained to The Sun that he’s always hated wearing suits as they make him feel uncomfortable. And he revealed that Elton is often taking aim at his “boring” attire too.
So, when Elton put Ed in touch with Versace, the flame-haired singer thought “why not?” and went for a colourful blazer.
He said: “I actually feel pretty good in it and it’s a while since there were big events on, so here I am. I’d feel less comfortable in an ordinary suit. It’s easier being in this.”
He added: “Before I came tonight I FaceTimed Elton to show him the results. He’s been slagging off my boring wardrobe for years. I’m not really a fashion guy but I’ve had to start to show an interest – he loves it. Elton approved — it’s very him.”
It wasn’t just his outfit that was a success on the night either he was presented wit the Solo Artist of the Year award.
The honour comes after the singer’s eagerly anticipated return to the music scene in April following an 18-moth hiatus.
Ed burst back onto the scene with his huge hit Bad Habits and is set to release his new album next month.
He said he has been writing and recording the album called = (Equals) for four years. It’s the fourth instalment in the musician’s symbol album series.

Taking to Instagram, Ed wrote: “I’ve been through love, loss, new life, grief and everything in between during the whole period of writing it, and I feel like it’s really a coming of age record. I’ve never been more proud of a body of work, or more excited/nervous for you all to hear it.
“The next song off of it is called Visiting Hours, which I finished for my friend Michael who sadly passed away this year.
“If you preorder the album you get this song with it, but it’s also on all platforms from now too. Lots more music to come, but for now I hope you are as excited as me for this album. ‘=‘ everywhere from October 29th x.”
