Wesley Shore, 39, cynically “manipulated” the girl, drunkenly asking her to go to bed with him, Hull Crown Court heard
A sick football club coach who sexually abused a young girl has been branded a “monster” and “the devil” by her mum.
Wesley Shore, 39, cynically “manipulated” the girl, drunkenly asking her to go to bed with him.
He kissed and cuddled her and told her that he was “totally in love with her” and that she would be his future wife, a court heard.
Shore, from Hull, admitted three offences of sexual assault on a child under 13, two offences of inciting her to engage in sexual activity and another of meeting a child following sexual grooming.
Richard Thompson, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court that Shore was a volunteer, but not in an official capacity, at a football club.
The court heard how the girl stayed over at Shore’s home with a friend several years ago, Hull Live reports.
He got very drunk and, while the girl was wearing a football club shirt, kissed her and touched her intimately.
He also carried out other sexual acts with her.
Shore later contacted her and they exchanged telephone numbers. He sent regular messages to her and asked her to send him a “surprise”.
The girl sent him a picture of herself in a sports bra. “He told her that, if anyone found out, he would be in a lot of trouble,” said Mr Thompson.
They talked about sexual activity and he said that he would not be able to have full sex with her because he did not have any condoms. They arranged to meet at a track near where she lived.
“He pulled her towards him and kissed her but they were interrupted by a member of the public,” said Mr Thompson.
Shore touched her on another occasion and kissed and cuddled her. He asked her to go upstairs to bed but she would not do so.
“She was scared at the prospect,” added Mr Thompson.
Shore told the girl that she was “beautiful” and that he was “totally in love with her”. He called her his future wife and told her to delete his messages.
The girl later said that she was really upset and panicked about what happened. She now crossed the road if she saw a man walking towards her.
Her family had given her a new phone with a tracker on it.
Mark Savage, mitigating, said: “These offences took place over a short space of time. He has responded in a very inappropriate way.
“He can’t offer any explanation or any excuse for what he did and hasn’t sought to do so.
“He has had time to reflect on his behaviour. His apology is genuine and profound.
“There is no pattern of similar behaviour, nothing on his mobile phone to indicate that he has sought out other young women.”
Shore had said: “I realise the impact of my behaviour. I hate myself for what I have done.
“This has taught me not to drink as much and it has taught me a hard lesson.”
Judge Sophie McKone told Shore: “You groomed and manipulated this girl for your own selfish sexual desires. She has had bad dreams because of what you did.
“Your behaviour towards her has had an effect upon her and her family.”
Shore was jailed for two years and eight months and was given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. He must register as a sex offender indefinitely.
After the hearing, the girl’s mother, from Hull, said outside court: “He is a monster but I think that monster is too nice a word for him. He’s just like the devil, isn’t he?
“He is preying on young children. He manipulated her and scared her.
“She was too frightened to tell me anything. I have got what I want – him in jail.
“It has been a long drawn out thing. I am satisfied that he is going to be getting his come-uppance.
“What I want to say about him is not printable, it really isn’t.”
The girl’s grandmother said that the life of the girl and her mother had been “hell”.
