Beverley Callard, best known for playing Liz McDonald in Coronation Street has renewed her wedding vows in Spain 10 years after her husband proposed to her there
Beverley Callard was a long way from the Rovers Return when she renewed her wedding vows with her husband in Spain.
The actress, best known for playing barmaid Liz MacDonald in Coronation Street married Jon McEwan in 2010 after he proposed to her in the country.
To celebrate their 10 years of marriage, the happy couple were joined by 30 guests at a stunning villa in Mojácar in the southern Spain.
Guests, including Beverley’s I’m a Celeb campmate Ruthie Henshall were treated to sangria, champagne and tasty tapas on the special day.
The actress, 64, who opted for a gorgeous Stella McCartney dress to mark the occasion told OK! the event was better than the couple’s wedding.
“We had the best time. It truly surpassed our dreams. It was the perfect day,” she said.
“People keep telling us it was the best party they’d ever been to.”
Beverley and Jon, 56 began their renewal ceremony at 6.30pm due to the heat.
However guests were still dancing the night away until the early hours of the morning.
The soap star said the couple had planned to go to a beach bar where Jon proposed, but due to the Covid-enforced curfew in the country the party decided to stay in the villa.
While Beverley said the couple’s wedding back in 2010 was “amazing” she admitted that the renewal was better.
“[The wedding] was very formal and organised to strict timing,” she said.
“The day goes by so fast whereas this was exactly what we wanted and really relaxed.”
And it seems the couple’s guests agreed as Jon said the men were all jumping on the roof terrace of the villa signing along to the band’s rendition of Sex On Fire.
As well as the traditional tapas, Beverley’s guests were also treated to a typical paella and flamenco dancers, which apparently made everyone cry with emotion.
When asked how he felt when he saw his wife on the big day, Jon said Beverley looked “absolutely beautiful”.
And it seems as if the emotion of the occasion got the better of the couple who both admitted they were in tears when it came to saying their vows.
Jon, who became known to the nation as “Mega Sh*g” during Beverley’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity last year, had suggested they say “I do” all over again when she left the ITV reality show.
When asked why she wanted to renew her vows Beverley previously told The Mirror: “Last October, Jon and I had been married for 10 years.
“We’ve been together for 20-odd years but we’d been married for 10. Lockdown meant we couldn’t celebrate.
“Then Jon actually proposed to me again when I came out of I’m A Celeb. He said he was so proud of me and if we weren’t married he’d ask me to do it all over again, so why not?”
