Barclays has bolstered its European equities unit with a senior hire from Citigroup.
Anita Tanna, who has spent the past 12 years at Citigroup in various roles in senior equities sales, has joined Barclays as head of generalist and specialist cash sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to a person familiar with the matter.
She will report into Makram Fares, head of equities distribution for Emea.
Tanna previously ran sales teams for Europe and the US at Citigroup, and will work closely with Barclays’ equity research team, which has been expanding in the region under former Morgan Stanley researcher Rupert Jones.
Barclays’ equities unit had its best-ever quarter in the first three months of 2021, with revenues jumping by 65% on the previous year.
In May last year, Fater Belbachir, Barclays’ global head of equities, left the UK lender after just 10 months in the role to join Citigroup. Paul Leech and Todd Sandoz replaced him, Financial News reported.
Leech joined Barclays in January last year as head of European equities after 25 years at JPMorgan.
Sandoz previously led the UK lender’s Americas stock trading unit, having joined in 2018 after leading Nomura’s equities business.
