Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is the latest famous face to move to Australia as the local film and TV industry booms amid the Covid pandemic.

On Friday, the British heartthrob smiled for a selfie with a fan – Macarthur FC striker Matthew Derbyshire – in Sydney’s Bondi Beach. 

The 41-year-old actor appeared shirtless in the photo, which was shared to Instagram, and was likely about to go for a dip at the iconic beach.

Matthew, who moved to Australia with his wife and three sons in 2020 to play for the western Sydney football team, looked very happy to have met the acclaimed actor.

‘Hey up Jax,’ he wrote in the caption of his post, referring to Charlie’s character – Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller – on the FX series.

While it is not know precisely when Charlie entered the country, he more than likely completed two weeks of compulsory hotel quarantine – as with all new arrivals to Australia.

The Lost City of Z star is Down Under to film the new Apple TV+ series, Shantaram.

The 10 episode drama thriller is based on the novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts and centres on a man named Lin, played by Charlie. 

Lin is a bank robber from Australia who flees to India and starts a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of Mumbai, according to Deadline.

Charlie first rose to fame in the British television series Queer as Folk in 1999.
