George Honeyman became Millwall’s second signing of the summer transfer window – and here a Hull City fan and podcaster gives their insight.
Joel Robinson from the To Hull and Back: A Hull City Podcast gives his views on the 27-year-old’s departure from the Tigers.
ARE HULL CITY FANS DISAPPOINTED THAT GEORGE HONEYMAN IS GONE?
On the most part, our fans are gutted he’s gone – he was an engine in our midfield, never stopped running or giving 100 per cent. The fans who aren’t disappointed that he’s gone are the ones who think we’ll be signing better players than him. However I do think his work ethic will be hard to replace.
WOULD YOU HAVE LIKED TO HAVE KEPT HIM?
I’d have loved to have kept him at the club – he was our best midfielder by a mile last season. We’d typically struggle if he wasn’t on the pitch, which is a testament to his leadership skills on and off the pitch.
DO YOU THINK HE WILL SUIT MILLWALL’S STYLE OF PLAY?
If Millwall like runners in midfielder who put in the hard graft, he’ll fit like a glove into that team.
WITH BILLY MITCHELL, ZIAN FLEMMING AND GEORGE SAVILLE IN THE LIONS MIDFIELD, DO YOU THINK HONEYMAN WILL BE ABLE TO NAIL DOWN A REGULAR STARTING SPOT?
One hundred per cent he will nail a first-team spot down, he was integral to us playing well, and that impact will be felt at Millwall too. The fans will love him. He needs to have a free role in the midfield as he loves to roam, so as long as Gary Rowett allows him that freedom, he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet every week
WHAT ARE HIS BEST ATTRIBUTES?
Honeyman can create, chip in with the odd goal, run for the full 90, tackle and press. He’s got all the attributes of a top midfielder at this level.
His biggest weakness I’d say is his strength, he can sometimes get pushed off the ball too easily. He also has a dodgy shoulder, so watch out for that.
