Nusret Gokce, who went viral on social media for the flamboyant way he salts his steak, opened the Knightsbridge restaurant in September 2021.
This week, Nusret UK Limited, the company behind the restaurant, published its accounts at Companies House revealing that it “performed higher than expected” and made a profit of £2.3 million in 2021.
That will make it one of the most profitable restaurants in London. It is unusual for restaurants to make a substantial profit in their first year.
However, wild figures may not seem surprising considering how expensive the Nusr-Et menu is–even for London.
Despite Nusr-Et widely receiving negative reviews — the Evening Standard’s Jimi Famurewa declared it a “categorically bad restaurant” in his scorching panning of the place — diners reportedly spend thousands of pounds on dinners at the eatery, where Gocke’s signature Golden Giant Tomahawk steak was selling for £1,450. It has since been reported that the gold-covered steaks are now off the menu.
Footballer Wayne Rooney treated his four sons and his wife Coleen to the £630 steak, while TOWIE star Gemma Collins admitted to feeling guilty about how much she spent at the restaurant.
The Turkish social media sensation came under fire for allegedly paying his chefs just £12 an hour—the same price Nusr-Et sells corn on the cob for.
Despite Salt Bae being synonymous with the Nusr-Et restaurants, he’s not listed as a director for Nusret UK, the company that has reported making £7 million, which is registered at Turkish conglomerate group Dogus International Limited’s London address.
The London restaurant is one of many, as Gocke has steakhouses across the world, including in New York, Dubai, and Istanbul.
In November 2021, six weeks after opening the Knightsbridge spot, Salt Bae left the UK to open yet another restaurant — his 28th — this time in Saudi Arabia.
